[Squaw Valley USA] March 26, 2010 - Skiers and riders can enjoy all that spring has to offer with Squaw's Spring Pass, on sale now for $129 when packaged with any 2010/11 Season Pass. The Spring Pass is valid 7 days a week starting April 1, 2010. Spring passholders will get their money’s worth as Squaw Valley offers Tahoe’s longest winter season, the most expansive, diverse and highest quality spring terrain and free use of the High Camp Lagoon and Spa starting mid-spring. Squaw currently boasts a 12+ foot base on the upper mountain and is scheduled to remain open until May 9, 2010, conditions permitting. Skiers and riders may also purchase a Spring Pass separately for $179.

This spring, skiers, riders and sunbathers are in for a treat as Squaw rolls out a host of events including everything from pool parties and rail jams to pond skimming and on-mountain competitions. Every Saturday brings a DJ pool party to the High Camp Lagoon and Spa, el. 8200’. Noteworthy parties include the Monster Mash Pool Parties following Monster Energy’s spring series’ events on March 27, April 3, April 24 and May 1. In addition, Squaw hosts the Hot Tub Time Machine Retro Pool Party on April 17, and on May 9, KTKE 101.5 hosts the KTKE Pool Party. The KTKE Pool Party includes $20 lift tickets for anyone who mentions KTKE at the ticket window, free pool entry with Squaw Season Passes and a 2010/11 Season Pass give-a-way.

Other springtime events will include the Peaks and Lagoons Spring Party Weekend featuring a variety of pool parties, activities and competitions on Saturday, April 3 and Sunday, April 4. Then, April 16 through April 18, Squaw hosts the first ever U.S. Professional Ski Patrol Olympics featuring professional patrollers from across the country. Later this spring, daredevils cross the frigid waters of Lake Cushing for the 20th Annual Cushing Classic. This wildly entertaining competition challenges local lunatics and gregarious guests to cross the vast and chilly waters of Lake Cushing on skis, a snowboard or any ski or snowboard-based vessel. Notorious for its colossal crashes, hilarious costumes, and ultra-creative pond skimming contraptions, the annual Lake Cushing Classic comes to Squaw mid-April to early May on a date to be determined.

Saturday morning, the competitions get going with a randonée race followed by a beacon competition and a GS race down The Slot. In the afternoon, the competitions will break for an on-snow BBQ in the Cornice II Bowl. Squaw Valley’s award-winning food and beverage team will be grilling up patties as patrol teams relax in the on-mountain snow lounge. The day’s events wrap up at 5pm with awards and after-party at Squaw Valley's Cornice Cantina.

Sunday morning the competition continues with a Sled Race, Bamboo Throw and simulated Bomb Throw. Patrollers will again enjoy a mid-mountain lunch on the snow, feasting on burgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches. The weekend concludes at Cornice Cantina an awards ceremony featuring music and prizes.

SPRING MAGIC KICKS OFF AT SQUAW VALLEY USA

Squaw Valley opens the High Camp Lagoon and Spa Saturday, March 20
[Squaw Valley USA] March 18, 2010 – Spring Magic kicks off this weekend at Squaw Valley USA with the opening of the High Camp Lagoon and Spa, el. 8200’. Squaw Valley is enjoying a phenomenal late winter season - and it's far from over. With 381 inches already this year, Spring at Squaw brings bluebird powder days, meticulous grooming, lively events (like the Cushing Classic) and mountaintop pool parties. The High Camp Lagoon and Spa will open Saturday, March 20 and will operate from 11am to 4pm with a DJ pool party from 1pm to 4pm.

Skiers and riders can enjoy all that spring has to offer with Squaw's Spring Pass, on sale now for $179.

Squaw is hosting a plethora of events to suit all tastes and ages this spring. The weekend of April 3, 2010, Squaw hosts the Peaks and Lagoons Spring Party Weekend featuring a variety of pool parties, activities and competitions. Throughout the spring, Monster Energy’s Spring Series brings five competitions to the slopes ranging from rail jams to GS races. Each competition will be followed by a DJ pool party at the High Camp Lagoon and Spa, el. 8200’. April 16-18, Squaw hosts the first ever U.S.

GIRL POWDER’S 3RD ANNUAL QUEEN OF THE PARK COMES TO SQUAW VALLEY USA
[Squaw Valley USA] March 18, 2010 – Girl Powder’s Third Annual Queen of the Park is coming to Squaw Valley USA Saturday, March 20, 2010. Queen of the Park is a ripping park event open to girls of all ages. The event gives girls a chance to show the world what they do on the slopes while establishing a greater sense of community among female park riders. The event will kick off at 3pm on Exhibition. As the event will be hosted at the base of the mountain, lift tickets are not required for competitors or spectators.

"Last year's competition was incredible and we knew it would be hard to top," stated Girl Powder CEO and Founder Joel Lackovich. “With girl’s throwing down at Queen of the Park in South Lake Tahoe, CA for the last two years we wanted to change it up in 2010.” Joel and the Girl Powder crew did just that and set their sights on Squaw Valley USA in North Lake Tahoe, CA. "The entire Girl Powder Crew is excited to see what features the Squaw Valley terrain park will bring to the table and what tricks the girls will throw down this year.”

Registration will be held in the Squaw Valley Village March 20 from 9am to 3pm, while spots are available. The cost to enter is $20 and all competitors will receive a Queen of the Park T-shirt. Girl Powder’s Queen of the Park will take place on Exhibition at the base of the mountain, and the competition will start promptly at 3pm. Immediately following the competition will be Girl Powder’s “Token Drag Queen” competition starting at 4:30pm. Dudes who like to shred while dressed in drag should check-in at registration to sign a waiver between 9am and 4pm. Registration for the Drag Queen competition is free.

SQUAW VALLEY USA & JONNY MOSELEY HOST 2010 SPRINT
US FREESTYLE CHAMPIONSHIPS
March 26 - March 28, 2010
[Squaw Valley USA] March 4, 2010 - Squaw Valley USA and Jonny Moseley are set to host the nation's top Mogul, Aerial and Halfpipe skiers for the 2010 Sprint US Freestyle Championships, March 26 - March 28, 2010. Those who couldn’t make it up to Vancouver will have the opportunity to witness some of the world’s best skiers in action. In addition to world-class competitions, US Freestyle Championships brings on and off-hill entertainment for all to enjoy. A Friday night party on the KT-22 Sundeck, a live hip hop pool party on top of the mountain, and a Saturday night concert at the Olympic Village Lodge are all part of Sprint US Freestyle Championships weekend at Squaw Valley USA.

On hosting the US Freestyle Championships, Olympic Valley Freestyle-Freeride Head Coach, Nat Schirman says, “Squaw Valley is a founding venue for freestyle skiing; we are honored to keep the traditional alive and to share this prestigious event with the community.”

Friday, March 26 the event will kick off with the Men’s and Women’s Mogul Competitions on Red Dog Face. Because Squaw Valley’s mogul course is located at the base of the mountain, spectators do not need lift tickets to watch the premier US Mogul skiers race to the finish. Ladies’ and Men’s qualification and finals takes place all day, beginning with Ladies’ Qualifications at 9:30am and Ladies’ and Men’s Mogul Finals from 1:15 to 2:15pm. The Mogul Awards will commence in the Village at 4 pm, followed by US Freestyle Championships Opening Ceremonies in the Village at 5 pm.

The celebration heats up Friday evening at the Village at Squaw’s hottest new après and dinner spot, 22 Bistro & Bar. Everyone is invited to mingle with competitors and freestyle skiing greats with Chef’s specials, drink specials, and select specials from the menu from 7 to 10 pm. 22 Bistro’s bartenders will step aside as freestyle skiing legends, like Brad Holmes, Jonny Moseley and JT Holmes take over as guest bartenders for the evening.

On Saturday, March 27, the US Freestyle Championships move up the mountain for the Men’s and Ladies’ Aerials and Skier Halfpipe Competitions in the Monster Park at Riviera. Ladies’ and Men’s Aerial Finals run from 11:45am to 1pm with awards immediately following. Next up, Ladies’ and Men’s Halfpipe kicks off with Qualifications from 1:15pm to 2:30pm and Finals from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. The Halfpipe awards will take place in the Riviera Park immediately following the competition.

The party continues Saturday afternoon at the High Camp Lagoon and Spa where Monster Energy’s DJ Pool Party will go off from 3pm to 6pm. US Ski Team athletes will be signing posters poolside from 4pm to 5pm. In addition, Monster Energy’s Rail Jam will run from 5pm to 6pm at High Camp next to the pool. Registration for the Monster Rail Jam is $10 per rider and will start at 3pm at the Halfpipe Finals.

Later Saturday night, the Hatchett Brothers take over OVL for the Hatchett Brothers 80s Metal Bash. Squaw Valley and Stoli Vodka present the Annual Head Bangers Ball at the Olympic Village Lodge in honor of snowboard film legends, Mike and Dave Hatchett. Join the Hatchett Bro's band FORTRESS for a night of heavy metal, head-banging and skin-tight leather pants with special guests Scott Travis from Judas Priest/ Racer X, Jeff Martin from Racer X, along with Wit Crane and Klaus Eichstadt from Ugly Kid Joe. Doors open at 8pm, and the event is open to 21 and older only. Tickets are $12 at the door or $10 if pre-purchased at Alice’s Market or at the Cable Car Ticket Window.

The final day of competition, Sunday March 28 is Ladies’ and Men’s Dual Moguls on Red Dog Face. Qualifications begin at 10:15am and Finals for both Ladies and Men are from 1:30pm to 3:00 pm. The Dual Moguls Awards are from 4pm to 4:30pm.

Friends and Family Invited to Celebrate the Life of Jimmie Heuga Saturday, March 6
[Squaw Valley USA] March 2, 2010 – This Saturday, Squaw Valley USA celebrates the incredible life of Jimmie Heuga. His life, his accomplishments and the strength he showed in demonstrating to others how to live with MS are an inspiration to all who knew him. The celebration will begin at 4pm on Saturday, March 6 on the KT Sundeck.

The son of Pascal “Pete” Heuga, one of Squaw Valley’s very first employees, Jimmie has always been a beloved member of Squaw Valley. His natural talent first captured the attention of Squaw Valley’s Ski School Director at age 8, and that was just the beginning. Jimmie went on to an amazing skiing career, winning the Bronze medal in the Men’s Slalom in the 1964 Olympics.

When Jimmie was diagnosed with MS in 1970, his doctors told him to live a sedentary lifestyle. Many years later, he rejected his doctors’ advice and found that swimming, biking and skiing made him feel better and helped him to regain his health. Jimmie founded The Heuga Center in 1984 to share what he had discovered with others struggling with the disease.

The Center’s CAN DO programs are based around this philosophy that people with MS are helped by exercise. This wellness approach to MS, which focuses on what people with MS can do rather than what they can’t do, is now widely embraced by the medical community. Jimmie will be sorely missed but his spirit lives on in the Center’s work and in all of us who have been inspired by him.

Squaw Valley USA will be celebrating Jimmie Heuga’s life this Saturday during the Vertical Express for MS. The celebration will be held at 4pm on Saturday, March 6 on the KT Sundeck. Speakers at the event will include Nancy W. Cushing (Squaw Valley CEO), Tamara KcKinney, Robert Frohlich and Lily Kunczynski (childhood friend) and Art Domingue (Pastor of the Squaw Valley Chapel). A reception will follow in the VTL for family and friends. In the event of weather, the entire event will be moved into VTL.
Squaw Valley to Host 2010 Vertical Express for Multiple Sclerosis on March 6-7
In its 25th year, the Vertical Express for MS is a series of on-snow events to benefit the Can Do MS Center (formally The Heuga Center)–a nonprofit organization that allows people with Multiple Sclerosis to live full, productive lives.

Challenge the Mountain. Challenge Yourself. Change Lives!

[Squaw Valley USA] March 2, 2010 – For the past two decades a dedicated group of enthusiastic skiers have gathered at Squaw Valley USA each winter to ski, spend a weekend with friends and raise money for The Heuga Center (now re-named The Can Do MS Center). The 2010 Vertical Express for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), presented by The Alger Family of Funds, EMD Serono, Inc./Pfizer Inc and Rolex Watch USA, hits the slopes of Squaw Valley USA on March 6-7, 2010, challenging skiers and riders of all ages and abilities. Proceeds benefit Can Do Multiple Sclerosis™, a national nonprofit organization and innovative provider of lifestyle empowerment programs that empower people with MS and their support partners to transform and improve their quality of life.

Teams of three skiers/riders raise a minimum of $1,000 to enter the Vertical Express for MS. The day’s activities include on-snow events, exciting prizes, complimentary lift tickets, food and gift bags. Teams that raise $15,000 or more earn a free trip to Vail, Colorado, to attend the April Awards celebration, April 15-18, 2010. Those who can’t attend are invited to participate on-line by supporting another team. Register for the Vertical Express for MS at www.verticalexpress.org or by calling toll free 888.DO.IT.4MS (364-8467).

Squaw Valley was Jimmie Heuga’s home mountain and the place he trained to win the Bronze medal in the Men’s Slalom in the 1964 Olympics. When Jimmie was diagnosed with MS in 1970, his doctors told him to live a sedentary lifestyle. Many years later, he rejected his doctors’ advise and found that swimming, biking and skiing made him feel better and helped him to regain his health.

Jimmie founded The Heuga Center in 1984 to share what he had discovered with others struggling with the disease. The Center’s CAN DO programs are based around this philosophy that people with MS are helped by exercise. The Center’s wellness approach to MS, which focuses on what people with MS can do rather than what they can’t do, is now widely embraced by the medical community. Jimmie will be sorely missed but his spirit lives on in the Center’s work and in all of us who have been inspired by him.

“Thanks to all those who raise funds for The Heuga Center, I was able to attend the five-day CAN DO Program," says Martha Gingrich, past CAN DO® participant. "I learned that I may have MS, but MS doesn’t have me! The information and expert attention I received lifted the veil that MS had over my entire life.”

In addition to the Vertical Express for MS held this weekend, Squaw Valley USA will also be celebrating Jimmie Heuga’s life this Saturday. The celebration will be held at 4pm on Saturday, March 6 on the KT Sundeck. Speakers at the event will include Nancy W. Cushing (Squaw Valley CEO) Tamara KcKinney, Robert Frohlich, Lily Kuncznski and Art Domingue ( Pastor of the Squaw Valley Chapel). A reception will follow in the Vertical Tasting Lounge (VTL) for family and friends.
