[Squaw Valley USA] August 17, 2010 – Squaw Valley USA is excited to announce a host of new shops, amenities and company leaders for the 2010-11 winter season. This year Squaw Valley has more to offer than ever before with a new mountaintop kids zone, expanded night skiing and renovated base lodge. In addition to the new additions, Squaw Valley is bringing back many popular programs such as the Women of Winter on Wednesdays (WOW) ski clinic and Ski-with-Jonny Days (powdered by Sprint) when skiers and riders can get a free mountain tour led by the one and only Jonny Moseley.

New CEO
The 2010/11 winter season welcomes Andy Wirth, Squaw Valley’s new Chief Executive Officer. Wirth succeeds Nancy Cushing, who will remain Chairman of the Board after retiring from the position of CEO. Cushing has advised the corporation since 1985 and served as its president since 1994. Wirth comes to Squaw Valley from Steamboat with extensive experience in both management and mountain operations.

“I’m looking forward to this opportunity as it’s a chance to work with a legendary mountain resort and a terrific management team. I will seek to further strengthen Squaw’s position as the premier ski destination for families and serious skiers alike, as well as creating the most fun, exciting consumer experience,” said Wirth.

New Mountaintop Kids Zone
Squaw Valley USA is the best place to be a kid and it’s only getting better for the 2010/11 winter season. Squaw Valley plans to transform the Belmont Park into a Kids’ fun zone complete with a snowfort and kid-friendly jumps, bumps and whoopty-doos. Also new for the 2010-11 season, kids can discover Squaw Valley’s mountain secrets with a new kids map designed to lead them on a grand adventure around the mountain. Kids will follow the map through Squaw Valley’s kid-friendly terrain to find fun facts about the mountain’s animals, history and natural habitat.

Expanded Night Terrain Park
For the 2010-11 winter season, Squaw Valley is greatly expanding their night skiing with improved lighting in the Riviera terrain park and halfpipe. Free with any lift ticket, skiers and riders can hit the slopes from 9am to 9pm on weekends (9am to 7pm midweek) during night operations and enjoy other High Camp night activities such as ice skating at the Olympic Ice Pavilion or an amazing dining experience at one of the upper mountain restaurants.

The new lights will mean big things for skiers and riders looking to get their fill of park riding. Snowboarder Conor Toumarkine calls it a “rad decision by Squaw.” “It totally expands the terrain. Now people will be able to hit Squaw’s halfpipe and epic features well into the night—it’s going to be awesome.”

Gates To Skills – New Ski Clinic
This season, skiers can feel the excitement of running through the gates, coached by one of the best—Thomas Gardtman. The Gates To Skills Clinic is an all-day ski program using gate training as an effective means to enhance, strengthen and hone one’s all-around skiing skills. The clinic features coaching in technical free skiing, dryland exercises, slalom, and GS—including video analysis.

Thomas Gardtman has been coaching and instructing top level national and international skiers for more than forty years. Gardtman continues to ski the most challenging conditions and locations.

New Conference Center
Squaw Valley just completed an extensive remodel of the Olympic Village Inn Conference Center. This facility will be available for meeting space, weddings and conferences. The remodel included all new flooring, A/V updates and a redesign of the outdoor gardens. This storied building was the first and only facility in which Olympic athletes dined together under one roof, and the space now maintains its classic and romantic feeling but with modern functionality.

Base Lodge Renovations
The legendary Olympic house will be brilliantly remodeled for the start of the 2010-11 winter season. The remodel includes opening up the building to better accommodate large indoor events. The new layout and design embraces the rich history of the space and employs extensive use of natural materials and environmentally advanced materials and energy uses. The base lodge remodel will include the addition of delicious new menu items including Squaw Valley's new Food and Beverage Director, Dave Benge's very own signature burrito.

New Demo Center & Ski Shop
This winter, Squaw Valley is opening a high-performance demo center that allows guests to try out this season’s latest ski technology. Both Skiers and riders can rent brand new high-performance rental equipment and skiers can demo this season’s latest skis from all the top manufactures. The new shop will work in conjunction with Squaw Valley’s mountaintop demo center, allowing guests to grab one set of demo skis at the bottom, and exchange them at the top of the mountain throughout the day until they finally meet their match—all for one flat rate. Located in the Village, the new shop will rent high-performance ski boots, skis, snowboards, snowboard boots, snowshoes and demo skis.

The new shop will also offer the best in tuning technology as Squaw Valley proudly boasts a revolutionary new Wintersteiger Tuning Machine. This incredible service provides the best ski and snowboard tuning on the planet and can bring equipment back to a factory-fresh condition.

Renovated Squaw Kids Children’s Center
The Squaw Kids Children’s Center, a frontrunner of environmental building, will be renovated for the 2010/11 winter season to improve the flow of registration traffic in the building and to better accommodate kids. The Squaw Kids program, known for their encouraging and skilled staff, imparts a life-long love of winter spots on kids of all ages. The renovation includes an expanded second floor, larger lunch room and more space in the rental room to accommodate a greater helmet selection.

3 New State-of-The-Art Grooming Machines
Squaw Valley’s grooming is getting even better for the 2010/11 winter season with the addition of 3 new state-of-the-art grooming machines.Squaw Valley’s grooming department features the most winch cats in the Tahoe region and an esteemed grooming team with experience on legendary terrain across the world including New Zealand, Australia, Japan and multiple World Cups. Squaw Valley’s three new piston bully 400s are capable of grooming more terrain per hour while using less significantly fuel, therefore improving both the quality of grooming and the environmental sustainability of the fleet.

Improved Snowmaking
Squaw Valley continues its multi-year effort of upgrading the mountain’s snowmaking equipment to greener and more efficient models. Now in its ninth year, Squaw has successfully upgraded 145 guns, including 39 new snowguns for the 2010-11 season. Further, Squaw Valley is demoing 8 new Saphyr snow-towers in the upcoming season. The Saphyr guns are nearly 30% more energy efficient than the most up-to-date B3 guns, requiring significantly less running time and less air to create the same amount of snow. Finally, Squaw Valley will be expanding snowmaking to halfpipe for the 2010-11 season, improving Squaw Valley’s terrain park offerings throughout the season.

Transformation of entire ground floor of Gold Coast Lodge
The 2010-11 winter season brings the completion of the final stage of the $3 million remodel of the mid-mountain restaurants at Gold Coast. Beginning with The ARC for the 2009/10 winter season and now with 39° North on the ground floor of the complex, the 14,000 squaw foot space has been transformed into an inspiring atmosphere with new food and an entirely new aesthetic. Located at the top terminal of the Funitel (Squaw’s 28-person gondola), The ARC and 39° North are constructed using an abundance of recycled and sustainable building materials including:

· 80% reclaimed and recycled wood products

· Water-based and low VOC paints and finishes

· Sustainable bamboo flooring and wall paneling

· Rubber floors made from 100% recycled rubber tires

· Natural slate and granite countertops and counter fronts

· LED and compact florescent lighting (CFLs) fixtures, and 20% low voltage halogen lights

The final renovations to 39° North are the icing on the cake for two years of incredible improvements to Squaw Valley’s food and beverage program. Squaw Valley has received rave reviews on the completely redesigned menus and facilities, and it is only going to get better. The 2010-11 winter season welcomes Dave Benge as Squaw Valley’s new Director of Food and Beverage. Benge comes to Squaw Valley with over eighteen years of executive food and beverage experience at Lake Tahoe resorts.

One of Squaw Valley's Food and Beverage Reviews (Winter 2009-10)
"The Arc at Squaw Valley makes one of the best ski resort burgers out there.”
– Brad Japhe of SeriousEats.com

This season, Squaw welcomes a host of new shops to the European-style base village. Guests can stroll the village streets and peruse Squaw’s specialty wine shop, fine art gallery and unique clothing boutiques—not to mention stores filled with the latest ski gear and accessories.

This season, Squaw Valley welcomes the addition of three new retail stores: Squaw Dogs, Marmot and Squaw One Logo Company. Squaw Valley USA Improves Mountain Dining for Winter 2010-11

with New Director of Culinary Services and Fresh New Dishes

[Squaw Valley USA] October 13, 2010 – Big things are in the works this season for Squaw Valley USA’s Culinary Services department. This fall, Squaw Valley USA remodeled the mountain’s legendary Olympic House base lodge and hired Dave Benge as the resort’s new Director of Culinary Services. Dave Benge comes to Squaw Valley with over 25 years of resort experience, all of which has prepared him to raise the bar for dining both at Squaw Valley and within the ski industry at large.

“It’s all about the guest,” said Benge. “I want guests to feel that they’re getting a great value as well as quality when they eat here. I think that’s something often lacking in resort dining.”

Among Benge’s first steps towards improving value and quality is a complete redesign of the Olympic House menus. The Olympic House Pavilion will be serving up brand new items such as hand-tossed salads, gourmet pizza and Asian stir-fry bowls. All dishes will be made with an abundance of fresh and local ingredients meaning that lunches will be as healthy as they are tasty. One of the new stations, Amigos Burritos, will be serving Benge’s own signature burrito that he has perfected over the years. “Even my wife keeps asking me what’s in the burrito,” said Benge.

Benge has also overseen the remodel of Olympic House’s Bar One—Squaw Valley’s original bar. In the resort’s early years, Bar One was home to hilarious skits produced and presented by guests and employees, sometimes accompanied by Squaw Valley founder Alex Cushing on the piano. The recent remodel has restored Bar One to its former glory including a refurbished fireplace, expansive bar and enhanced mountain views.

“I’m really exited about the renovations to Bar One,” noted Benge. “It has a taste of the past but it’s also very contemporary. Guests can look forward to an warm and inviting atmosphere for après ski.”

Like Squaw Valley’s new CEO Andy Wirth, Dave Benge has a passion for creating the ultimate guest experience. Whether its lunch over a burrito or the ultimate mountain wedding, Benge notes that he loves interacting with guests and making their time at Squaw Valley memorable. “This is where people make the memories of a lifetime—I love being a part of that experience,” said Benge.

Dave Benge has been involved in the food industry in one aspect or another since he was twelve years old. While he won’t let on how long it’s been since then (his wife would kill him, he says), Benge’s astonishing wealth of experience and commitment to guest service will undoubtedly take the resort’s Culinary Services to the next level.

Skiers and riders looking to enjoy the resort's new dining this season take note, Squaw Valley's discounted season pass deadline is October 15, 2010.

International Snow Science Experts Convene at Squaw Valley USA

The ISSW comes to the Resort at Squaw Creek October 17-22, 2010

[Squaw Valley USA] October 8, 2010 – Next week, hundreds of snow scientists, avalanche practitioners and engineers from around the world will gather at the Resort at Squaw Creek for the 19th International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW). Taking place October 17 through October 22, the ISSW embodies the merging of theory and practice by promoting the exchange of ideas and introducing the latest forecasting tools and avalanche mitigation products.

The ISSW combines lectures with hands-on activities and demonstrations. The world’s top snow science experts will present their papers on cutting-edge snow science research, specific case studies and the latest technology in the field. The lectures will be supplemented by demonstrations including a live presentation of the Daisy Bell—a contraption that hangs 150 feet below a helicopter and mixes oxygen and hydrogen gas to ignite an explosion directly on the slope while the Daisy Bell itself remains intact. The schedule also includes group activities for attendees including rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking and kayaking.

“The ISSW is on the cutting-edge of snow science and avalanche mitigation,” said ISSW chairman Russell Johnson. “The workshop is extremely relevant to a wide range of industries including patrollers, mountain guides, forecasters, transportation workers, and engineers working for mining companies, architecture firms and governments.”

The ISSW is instrumental in improving snow safety on an international scale. The workshop ensures that those working in snow-related fields are armed with the most up-to-date information and technology so they can better ensure safety for both themselves and for those they protect.

“Unlike other conferences, the information is not just for academic benefit,” noted Johnson. “When the event is over, attendees will go back to their winter jobs protecting skiers, snowboarders, highway drivers, miners and residents of mountain communities world-wide. The information shared at the ISSW goes directly into the field.”

First held in 1976, the ISSW was last at Squaw Valley in 1986 when the workshop had roughly 250 attendees. Twenty-four years later, the ISSW returns to Squaw Valley with an expected 850 attendees. The workshop is not only the biggest of its kind, it is the only gathering where people from around the world and every snow-related field come together to share research and experience.

“It’s a glimpse into the future,” continued Johnson. “You can see the future of avalanche control when you hear the lectures and see the new technology. Brand new concepts that were still in development during the 1994 ISSW are now common practice.”

More information about the 2010 ISSW at the Resort at Squaw Creek is available at www.issw2010.com.
2011 AMGEN TOUR OF CALIFORNIA TO START AT LAKE TAHOE

Largest Cycling Event in America Features South Lake Tahoe as Overall Start and North Lake Tahoe as Stage 1 Finish, Stage 2 Start

Oct. 7, 2010 (Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev.) – The 2011 Amgen Tour of California, the largest cycling event in America, will start at Lake Tahoe, one of the country’s most spectacular destinations and nationally renowned cycling meccas.

Lake Tahoe’s first-ever involvement in the race will feature more than a lap and a half around the Lake beginning at the Calif./Nev. border in South Lake Tahoe with the Stage 1 finish at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort in North Lake Tahoe. North Lake Tahoe also hosts the Stage 2 start at Squaw Valley USA, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics.

The Amgen Tour of California covers more than 800 miles, traveling between 15 host cities over the course of eight days from May 15-22, 2011. Last year’s date change from February to May allowed the Tour de France-style road race to visit locations that would not have been possible previously, including a visit to Big Bear Lake. Due to the incredible success, the race will remain in May to provide fans with the most action-packed race possible.

The race will wind through miles of beautiful California terrain, beginning with the first-ever visit to Lake Tahoe, a well known cycling destination and home of “America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride.” The race will travel through some of the state’s most scenic landmarks, with the overall finish in title-sponsor Amgen’s hometown community of Thousand Oaks.

The 15 official stage start and finish communities that have been selected for the 2011 race include newcomers: South Lake Tahoe, North Lake Tahoe-Northstar at Tahoe Resort, North Lake Tahoe-Squaw Valley USA, Auburn, Livermore, Claremont, and Mt. Baldy, along with return cities: Sacramento, Modesto, San Jose, Seaside, Paso Robles, Solvang, Santa Clarita and Thousand Oaks.

“Whether it’s skinny or fat tires, Tahoe is a passionate biking community,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. “Hosting the Amgen Tour of California, the country’s most prestigious bike race, will put us on the map as ‘must ride’ for cyclists while having a significant impact on the local and regional economy.”

“There is nothing quite like riding at elevation – 6,300 feet,” said Andy Chapman, tourism director of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. “These cyclists are going to be pushing the envelope as they make their way up and down mountain passes and not once but twice around the national treasure of Emerald Bay State Park for a grand finish at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort. Equally spectacular will be the Stage 2 Start at Squaw Valley USA with Tahoe’s famed granite peaks making for an unforgettable backdrop.”

Lake Tahoe is recognized for several annual summer biking events. America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride has participants circumnavigate the Lake the first weekend in June. Another chance to circle Tahoe’s 72-mile shoreline is during the annual Tour de Tahoe Bike Big Blue Race in mid-September. Late September brings the Tahoe Century Ride, which starts and finishes at Squaw Valley and features scenic routes and challenging hill climbs. The annual Lake Tahoe Marathon Week offers a bike race around Tahoe’s shoreline the end of September. Furthermore, the annual Death Ride® course covers five High Sierra mountain passes includes both sides of Monitor and Ebbetts Pass, Carson Pass and Turtle Rock Park, north of Markleeville. Tour de Nez offers significant professional stage races in the country taking place in 2 states: Nevada and California; the cities of Reno and Truckee, along the shores of Lake Tahoe, and up the mountains surrounding the resort at Northstar-at-Tahoe every June.

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, are spearheading promotional and sponsorship efforts for the Lake Tahoe Stage 1 Start, Finish and Stage 2 Start, and will serve on the Amgen Tour of California Lake Tahoe Local Organizing Committee.

Beginning with the inaugural race in 2006, the Amgen Tour of California quickly became the most successful race in the United States with regards to economic benefits to the state, global recognition and the level of competition. The race also continues to set records in attendance for a single sporting event in the state of California, as well as any cycling event ever held on U.S. soil, with more than 2 million spectators in previous years.

“Last year we witnessed the benefits of moving the Amgen Tour of California to May – better weather, a new, challenging route and more intense competition,” said Andrew Messick, president of AEG Sports. “In 2011 we plan to continue to showcase the beautiful features the state of California has to offer, while also continuing to raise the bar for what it means to be the largest, most important cycling race in America.”

In previous years, the race has drawn some of the world's most renowned and respected riders, such as top Tour de France competitors, World Champions and Olympic medalists that include Lance Armstrong, Tom Boonen, Oscar Freire, Paolo Bettini, Fabian Cancellara, Carlos Sastre, Ivan Basso, George Hincapie, Mark Cavendish and Andy Schleck.

“The 2011 Amgen Tour of California route is going to result in an exciting and compelling race,” said Lance Armstrong of Team Radioshack. “All of us at Team Radioshack are looking forward to it.”

Returning as the title sponsor for the sixth consecutive year, Amgen will continue to leverage the race to raise awareness and support for people affected by cancer through its Breakaway from Cancer® initiative. A leading global biotechnology company with headquarters in Thousand Oaks, Calif., one of the 2011 race Host Cities, Amgen's invaluable support has helped to ensure the continued success of the race and impact beyond the sporting arena.

“The 2011 Amgen Tour of California route will deliver new challenges for the professional cyclists and also give Amgen an opportunity to introduce our company and our Breakaway from Cancer initiative to California communities that are getting involved in the race for the first time,” said Stuart Arbuckle, vice president and general manager, Amgen Oncology. “We look forward to collaborating with all of this year’s Host Cities to spread awareness about Amgen, our mission to serve patients through using biotechnology to create medicines for people with grievous illness, and the incredible support services that are available free of charge to people affected by cancer through Amgen’s non-profit Breakaway from Cancer partner organizations.”

The 2011 Amgen Tour of California will visit 15 Host Cities for official stage starts and finishes, while other cities along the route also will have the opportunity to witness the excitement of elite professional cycling. Stages for the 2011 Amgen Tour of California include:
• Stage 1: Sunday, May 15 – South Lake Tahoe to North Lake Tahoe-Northstar at Tahoe Resort
• Stage 2: Monday, May 16 – North Lake Tahoe-Squaw Valley USA to Sacramento
• Stage 3: Tuesday, May 17 – Auburn to Modesto
• Stage 4: Wednesday, May 18 – Livermore to San Jose
• Stage 5: Thursday, May 19 – Seaside to Paso Robles
• Stage 6: Friday, May 20 – Solvang Individual Time Trial
