Squaw Valley Opens for the Season on Wednesday, November 23

[Olympic Valley, CA] November 22, 2011 – Squaw Valley is slated to open for skiing and riding on Wednesday, November 23. The Lake Tahoe resort recently received over half a foot of snow, and snowmaking efforts have been going full force since Halloween. The National Weather Service has noted that La Niña, which brought a record-breaking 810 inches to Squaw last winter, has re-emerged in the tropical Pacific Ocean and is forecast to gradually strengthen and continue into winter - meaning possible repeat large snow totals for this winter season.

Skiers and riders can kick-off winter on November 23 by taking their first turns of the season on the slopes accessed by the Red Dog and Exhibition chairlifts, scheduled to spin from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Squaw Valley's Snowsports School will be open in a brand new location, offering private and group lessons to help skiers and snowboarders get back in the groove. Squaw's renovated ski and snowboard rental shops will also be opening on November 23 with a full new rental fleet of top of the line Salomon skis and boards.

Opening day marks the soft opening of Squaw Valley’s new SnoVentures Activity Zone, offering new mini snowmobiles for kids and snowtubing for the entire family. Guests can also take a scenic ride up Squaw Valley’s Aerial Tram to enjoy dining and ice skating overlooking Lake Tahoe.

Opening day also marks the final week in which skiers and riders can purchase a Tahoe Super Pass at the current reduced rates. Starting at just $439, the Tahoe Super Pass is the first pass in ski resort history to offer season-long, interchangeable access to both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. Tahoe Super Passes are on sale now and available at these incredible rates through November 30.

Through Squaw's new "Turn in Your Ticket" program, skiers and riders will be able to turn in their 2011-12 lift tickets on the day of purchase at the Tickets, Passes and Snowsports Center, and receive the full amount off the purchase of a Tahoe Super Pass before prices go up after November 30.

Squaw Valley will be starting the season off with early-season discounted lift tickets. Adults can ski all day for $59, youth and seniors for $49, super seniors and kids 12 and under for $25. For more information on ticket pricing and the most up-to-date conditions and operations, please see www.squaw.com or call 1-800-403-0206.

Julia Mancuso and Squaw Valley Head to the World Cup in Aspen

In honor of the first race of the season, Squaw Valley and Olympic Gold Medalist Julia Mancuso launch an eBay auction to support High Fives Non-Profit Foundation

[Olympic Valley, CA] November 18, 2011Squaw Valley’s team is heading to the FIS Alpine World Cup in Aspen on November 26 and November 27 to cheer on the Lake Tahoe resort’s Olympic Gold Medalist, Julia Mancuso, as she takes on the fastest female skiers in the world. A Squaw skier since age 2, Julia Mancuso is one of the fastest women in ski racing – having won an Olympic Gold Medal, two Silver Medals and first place in final race of last year’s World Cup season.

In honor of the first major ski racing competition of the season, Squaw Valley and Julia Mancuso are launching a special eBay auction to benefit the High Fives Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping winter action sports athletes with life-altering injures get back on their feet. The auction went live on eBay today at 12 p.m. PST, and will run through November 28, 2011. The auction includes a pair of 2012 Volkl Gotamas, Marker Jester Bindings, two Gold Tahoe Super Passes with unlimited access to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, and a private Dawn Patrol with Julia and 20 people providing early access to Squaw’s slopes. Click here to visit the live auction.

Donated by Volkl/Marker, the makers of Julia Mancuso’s own skis and bindings, the 2012 Volkl Gotamas are one of this season’s hottest skis. At 107mm underfoot with a new rocker profile, the Gotamas are perfect for floating on Squaw’s deep powder (the resort received over 800 inches of snow last season). The skis come accompanied by Marker Jester Bindings, one of the most popular bindings on the market, known for their light weight and durability.

The auction package also includes two Gold Tahoe Super Passes and a private Dawn Patrol with Julia. The Gold Tahoe Super Passes, valid at both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, offer unlimited skiing and riding on over 6,000 acres, 44 lifts and over 270 trails for the 2011-12 winter season. The private Dawn Patrol with Julia will be valid over the December holiday period – offering the winner and 19 of his or her friends access to several of Squaw’s lifts before the general public (lift tickets or a season pass required).

Squaw Valley invites Julia’s fans who will be in Aspen for the FIS Alpine World Cup to join them for après race fun at the Squaw Valley Julia Mancuso House, located walking distance from the World Cup race venue. For more information, find the Squaw team at finish line cheering for Julia.

SQUAW VALLEY AND ALPINE MEADOWS MERGER COMPLETED

In honor of the closing of the Squaw/Alpine Meadows merger – the resulting company, Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, pledges $25,000 to the Community House project

[Olympic Valley, CA and Alpine Meadows, CA] November 16, 2011 – The previously announced transaction between KSL Capital Partners and JMA Ventures which joins Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows under one operating company has officially closed. This announcement affirms that skiers and riders can access Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows’ 6,000 acres, 44 lifts and over 270 trails on one lift ticket or season pass. The two resorts will be connected by convenient, complimentary shuttles that will provide transportation between the two resorts.

“Since announcing the merger, the Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley joint pass products –the Tahoe Super Pass and Tahoe Super Six, and Squaw Valley’s $50 million Renaissance, the response from our guests has been overwhelmingly positive” said Andy Wirth, Squaw Valley’s president and CEO.“The opportunity to experience these two incredible mountains, each with their own unique spirit and character, through one pass and one ticket has resonated deeply with our guests,” said Wirth. Wirth will take the helm as the president and CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings, LLC, the newly formed parent company of both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.

“We are extremely pleased to announce what is certainly the biggest news of the 2011-2012 ski season,” said Todd Chapman, president and CEO of JMA Ventures. “We look forward to working with Squaw Valley management, to introducing our guests to the greatly expanded opportunities that result from this combining of forces with Squaw Valley, and to the exciting days that lie ahead for these two magnificent properties.”

In honor of the closing that unites these two incredible resorts, the new combined company, Squaw Valley Ski Holdings LLC, is pledging $25,000 to the Community House, a visionary new community center and a service delivery program spearheaded by the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF). The Community House will provide space for a host of invaluable local non-profit organizations who provide constant, accessible support and critical resources to families in times of need, all within walking distance to the elementary school, Boys and Girls Club and Kings Beach library. Those non-profits include Tahoe SAFE Alliance, the North Tahoe Family Resource Center, and Project MANA.

“Having Squaw Valley lead the way by providing the first gift toward purchasing property to house the Community House is incredibly significant,” said Linda Brown, TTCF’s interim CEO. “Squaw Valley, under Andy Wirth’s leadership, has emerged as an outstanding corporate and philanthropic leader. With Squaw’s gift and donations from others, the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation will be able to secure long term space for non-profits providing critical core services for families in Kings Beach, enabling them to live with dignity and opportunity in our community.”

Guests can hand select sunglass and goggle frames and lens combinations to create their own custom one-of-a-kind piece. The Oakley store is schedule to open in January 2012.

The Village at Squaw Valley also welcomes Farrah Rale Jewelry Design – where guests can create their own jewelry from beautiful gemstones, pearls, crystals, glass, and various gold and silver metals. In addition to assisting customers with crafting their own pieces, Farrah Rale’s bead team is available to assemble custom pieces while guests ski, snowboard or explore Squaw’s mountain activities. Farrah Rale also offers one-on-one classes and private parties. Ready-to-wear pieces are available for purchase in the store. Farah Rale Jewerly is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and until 10 p.m. on Saturdays.

In addition to new shopping experiences, Squaw is adding several new dining options to The Village at Squaw Valley. Lake Tahoe locals’ favorite sandwich spot, Full Belly Deli, will be opening up shop in the Tram building at the new Full Belly Deli Express in early December. Known for incredible food, service and Truckee authenticity, Full Belly Deli is revising their menu to best service the grab-and-go crowd. Menu items will include breakfast sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, wraps, salads and their unbeatable signature sandwiches.

Guests with a sweet tooth will enjoy the new sweet shops that are coming to The Village this winter. Batch Cupcakery, located on the base floor of Olympic House, will feature gourmet cupcakes baked fresh daily using the finest natural ingredients, including gluten free and organic options. The new cupcakery is schedule to open for the 2011 holiday season.

A distinctive desert and Candyland-like experience awaits the whole family at Euro Sweets. Euro Sweets will be opening in The Village early December, serving up gelato, frozen yogurt, specialty candies, chocolates, and other sweets.

Squaw’s Euro Snack kiosk will return, this winter to be accompanied by a new Euro Crepe kiosk, serving sweet breakfast crepes and veggie and cheese-filled lunch crepes. Opening early December, the two kiosks will be located at each end of The Village, so one will never be far from a delicious taste of Europe’s best snacks.

Squaw Valley’s favorite cookie shop, Wildflour Baking Company, will be reopening in an expanded location in the base floor of the Olympic House. In addition to their world-renowned cookies, Wildflour will be offering an expanded breakfast menu, delicious sandwiches, and a new express line reserved for cookie pass holders and past and present Olympians. The expanded shop is expected to open in December, in time for the 2011 holiday season.

Squaw Valley Ski Team Commences On-Snow Training

[Olympic Valley, CA] November 9, 2011 – Squaw Valley opened its slopes today to members of the resort’s Ski Team, kicking off training for the 2011-12 winter season. This unique training opportunity allows Squaw’s Far West athletes ages 9 and up to get a competitive edge among area race team programs. The athletes will be training on Squaw Valley’s Exhibition run, nearly a month before the official start of the training program. With over a foot of snow having already fallen this season and additional snowmaking efforts, Squaw Valley is scheduled to open to the public on November 23, 2011.

Squaw Valley’s Ski Team is renowned for producing some of the top alpine and freestyle skiing athletes in North America, from Tamara McKinney to Jonny Moseley. Squaw Valley has had skiers in nearly every Winter Olympic Games since the resort hosted the Games in 1960, having brought home many gold medals since.

With six athletes on the US Ski Team, Squaw currently has more athletes on the US Ski Team than any other club. Squaw Valley’s Olympic Gold Medalist Julia Mancuso, who won the final downhill of the 2010-11 World Cup season, and Olympian Marco Sullivan are part of the US Ski Team’s elite champions, closely followed by up-and-comers Travis Ganong, Nick Davis, Keith Moffat and Bryce Bennett. The US Ski Team announced their official 2012 roster last weekend on November 5, 2011.

Aspiring athletes in the Lake Tahoe area can be a part of Squaw Valley’s kids ski team more affordably than ever before. Squaw Valley reduced the price of their Tuesday/Thursday kids program by over fifty percent – meaning that parents of young skiers can save over $700 this winter. The program is suited for kids ages 4 to 10 who are looking to ski with coaches in a fun, learning environment on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Prices start at $499 and include a Gold Season Pass valid at both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. For more details, please see squaw.com.
