HEAVENLY HOSTS NIKE CHOSEN TOUR ON FEBRUARY 4

Night Jam to Take Place on World Cup

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Calif./Nev. – February 1, 2012 – Heavenly Mountain Resort has teamed up with Nike Snowboarding to host the fifth stop of the Nike Winter Chosen Tour on Saturday, February 4, 2012. The slopestyle rail jam will take place from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on World Cup run at the California Main Lodge.

Nike’s Winter Chosen consists of two components: a video crew competition, in which riding and filming crews enter online for a chance to travel to Austria and compete with professional riders and videographers, and the Night Jam, a freestyle slope session featuring production lighting and local and professional snowboarders competing for $5,000 in cash prizes.

[Olympic Valley, Calif. / Tahoe City, Calif.] January 23, 2012 – After three days of snowfall, Squaw Valley has received five feet of snow in 72 hours on the upper mountain, and Alpine Meadows has received six feet in 72 hours at the summit - the most of any resort in Tahoe. As a result of the phenomenal snowfall, more than any other Tahoe resort, both Squaw and Alpine Meadows have been able to open substantially more terrain – with 1,550 acres and 21 lifts now open between the two resorts (650 acres at Squaw, 900 acres at Alpine Meadows).

After three days of snowfall, Squaw Valley has received five feet of snow in 72 hours on the upper mountain, and Alpine Meadows has received six feet in 72 hours at the summit – the most of any resort in Tahoe. Squaw Hosts a Week of Safety Programs for National Safety Awareness Week

[Olympic Valley, Calif.] January 16, 2012 – In honor of National Safety Awareness Week, Squaw Valley is hosting a full calendar of events and activities this week promoting safety both on and off the mountain. Celebrated across the country from January 14 through January 22, Safety Week is part of the National Ski Area Association’s safety-awareness program.

“The safety of our guests and our employees is our number one priority,” said Squaw Valley CEO Andy Wirth. “Supporting National Safety Week puts the spotlight on our programs that are in practice on a daily basis.”

In honor of Safety Week, Squaw is offering two free terrain park safety clinics daily through January 22, as well as free avalanche beacon workshops on January 20 and January 21 (RSVP by calling (530) 452-7260). On January 20, Squaw is hosting the annual Steep & Deep Avalanche Awareness Clinic at 6:30 p.m. This free clinic is open to all ages and features multi-media presentations by local guides, extreme skiers and forecasters on weather, terrain analysis and snow stability. In keeping with the safety theme, Squaw is offering 20% off helmet purchases at all Squaw retail locations through January 22.

Squaw is also hosting a number of fun activities for kids this Safety Week. Kids can meet the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol and take their pictures with the Squaw Dogs – the only American rescue dog team asked to patrol at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Kids can also take part in the Squaw Kids Scavenger Hunt from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on January 21 – a fun, safety oriented, scavenger hunt that takes kids around the mountain learning important aspects on how to be safe.

Other great Safety Week kids’ activities include the chance to meet a groomer and climb into the giant snow cats to learn safety tips, or decorate their helmets with outrageous style during Crazy Helmet Day.

Squaw and Alpine Launch New Daily $69 Learn to Ski and Ride Package

As part of National Learn to Ski and Ride Month, beginners can learn to ski and ride for just $69 every day this January at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows

[Olympic Valley and Tahoe City, Calif.] January 10, 2011 – Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows announced a new daily $69 learn to ski and ride package in honor of National Learn to Ski and Ride Month. Starting this January 11, beginner skiers and riders (ages 13+) can get a lift ticket, rental package and full day lesson for just $69 (normally $159, or $149 if purchased in advance). The $69 learn to ski and ride package is available daily through January 31, 2012 and can be purchased in the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows rental shops.

In addition to the daily $69 learn to ski and ride package this month, Squaw and Alpine Meadows are offering a special $39 learn to ski and ride package on Sunday, January 29, including a half-day lesson (10 a.m.- 1 p.m.), beginner lift ticket and equipment rentals.

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows announce the new Tahoe Super 4 and other great discounted products to get on the ski lifts this winter

[Olympic Valley and Tahoe City, CA] December 26, 2011 – As the new year draws near, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are offering great discounts on lift ticket products to get skiers and riders on the mountain. Since Squaw and Alpine combined this fall, both resorts can now be accessed by one lift ticket or season pass. The new Squaw/Alpine Express shuttle is running between the two resorts every 20 minutes, providing seamless and convenient access to both mountains’ incredible terrain.

The New Tahoe Super 4!
Squaw and Alpine announce the new Tahoe Super 4 – offering four unrestricted days at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows for $289 for adults (less than $73 per day), $239 for young adults ages 13 to 22 (less than $60 per day) and $119 for kids ages 5 to 12 (less than $30 per day). The Tahoe Super 4 can be used any four days of the 2011-12 winter season at both resorts with no blackout days. The Tahoe Super 4 is available on squaw.com and skialpine.com.

The Tahoe Super 6 – Available only through January 1, 2012!
Skiers and riders can get six unrestricted days of skiing and riding at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows for $399 for adults ($66 per day), $299 for young adults ages 13 to 22 (less than $50 per day) and just $149 for kids ages 5 to 12 ($25 per day) with the Tahoe Super 6. Hurry though! While the Tahoe Super 6 is valid through the end of the 2011-12 winter season with no blackout dates, it is only available for purchase through January 1, 2012. Guests just off the airplane can ski or ride the afternoon for free at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. [Olympic Valley and Tahoe City, Calif.] December 23, 2011 – Calling all beginner skiers and riders, January is national learn to ski and snowboard month and both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are celebrating, January 8 and 29, by offering affordable beginner learn-to-ski and ride packages for $39, including a half-day lesson (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.), lift ticket and equipment rentals. This is a great opportunity to hit the slopes and fine-tune your skills with lessons from the pros.

“Whether you’re a first-time skier or rider or simply looking to advance your skills, this is a great time to get out on the hill when the crowds have died down after the holidays,” said Dee Byrne, director of snow sports. “Our experienced instructors will provide the foundation you need to develop proper technique and will have you falling in love with the sport.”

For those that find they are hooked after just one lesson, there is the option to upgrade for $130 to Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows’ Learn to Ski/Ride Three-Day Progression Package. The Progression Package includes three days of lessons (10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., ages 13+), lift tickets, rental equipment, and a learn-to-turn guarantee. Lessons can be taken consecutively or spread throughout the season. This package is offered daily throughout the season for just $289.

Another great learn to ski and snowboard option available throughout the season is the First Time Skier/Rider Package for $159. This package is an introduction to the basics and will teach students to learn to turn, stop and ride lifts at a comfortable pace. This package includes lessons (10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., ages 13+), lift ticket and rental equipment. There is also an afternoon (1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.) option with the Afternoon First Time Skier/Rider Package for $119. For an additional $130, an upgrade is available to the Learn to Ski/Ride Three-Day Progression Package for anyone who decides they would like an additional two days of lessons.

A benefit for avalanche education on Saturday, December 17

[Olympic Valley, Calif.] December 14, 2011 – Squaw Valley Ski Patrol is hosting the 20th Annual Snow Gods Ball on the evening of Saturday, December 17. Proceeds from the Snow Gods Ball allow Squaw Valley Ski Patrol to grant scholarships to community members for avalanche education. The Terrace
Squaw Valley's most breathtaking venue, The Terrace, will reopen this winter as a renovated sit-down restaurant serving lunch daily, as well as dinner during winter night operations. Located at High Camp, elevation 8200 feet, The Terrace features panoramic views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding Sierra. With crisp white table clothes, The Terrance will be serving up dishes such as homemade roasted pumpkin gnocchi, portobello fries and everyone’s favorite – Squaw Valley’s signature pheasant soup. The Terrace will open for the 2011-12 winter season on Saturday, December 17.

Funi’s Moutaintop Café + Market
Funi’s will open as an on-mountain market designed especially for the skiers and riders who want to hit the slopes right away. Wired for convenience and flavor, the menu will offer breakfast sandwiches, performance-oriented snacks (including a make your own trail mix bar), homemade soups, hot and cold sandwiches and pocket-ready desserts. In addition, a new signature dessert called Funi Crepes, created with a nod to the resort’s high-speed Funitel, may quickly become the most craved item on the mountain. Funi Crepes will feature delicious crepes filled with one’s choice of fruit, Nutella or Dulce de Leche, tucked inside an ice cream cone. Funi’s will open for the 2011 holiday season.

Ski-In/Ski-Out Starbucks
The Gold Coast Complex will be host to North America's first ski-in/ski-out Starbucks, which will serve as a fun and innovate way for skiers and riders to get their daily dose of caffeine. Starbucks will offer a full menu of breakfast items and coffee drinks - as well as hot cocoa for kids. The Starbucks is scheduled to open in mid-January 2012.

O-Lounge
The East end of Bar One will be transformed into a new dining experience for guests who desire a more relaxed experience. A signature chef’s harvest table will offer an ever-changing, seasonally inspired menu that allows guests to savor fresh soups, salads, antipasti, hand-carved meats and desserts. The new area will be home to afternoon events such as wine and chocolate tastings. The O-Lounge is scheduled to open for the 2011 holiday season.

Bar North Sports
High Camp’s Bar North has been renovated into a mountaintop sports bar. Lake Tahoe locals’ favorite sandwich spot, Full Belly Deli, will be opening a second location in the Tram building at the new Full Belly Deli Express this December. Known for incredible food, service and Truckee authenticity, Full Belly Deli is revising their menu to best service the grab-and-go crowd. Menu items will include breakfast sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, wraps, salads and their unbeatable signature sandwiches. Full Belly Deli Express is schedule to open for the 2011 holiday season.

Batch Cupcakery
Guests with a sweet tooth will enjoy the new sweet shops that are coming to The Village this winter. Batch Cupcakery, located on the base floor of Olympic House, will feature gourmet cupcakes baked fresh daily using the finest natural ingredients, including gluten free and organic options. Wildflour
Squaw Valley’s favorite cookie shop will be reopening in an expanded location in the base floor of the Olympic House. The expanded shop is expected to open in December, in time for the 2011 holiday season.

South Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev. – December 13, 2011 – Behind the power of the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system, Heavenly Mountain Resort will open Stagecoach Express on Wednesday, December 14, 2011, giving skiers and snowboarders top-to-bottom skiing and riding on the resort’s Nevada side.

“It snows every night at Heavenly,” said Pete Sonntag, Heavenly’s general manager. “There’s no question – if you’re planning on skiing or snowboarding over the holiday season, Heavenly is the place to be. Not only do we have the finest surface conditions, but we’ve got a great variety of terrain for every skill level. And we’ll continue to make the investment in snowmaking to get more and more terrain open for our guests.”

The addition of Stagecoach Express means Heavenly will be able to offer nearly 2,400 vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding on more than eight miles of the finest snow surface conditions Lake Tahoe has to offer. Overall, Heavenly has nine lifts and 15 trails open, with advanced, intermediate and beginner terrain available. Snow depths on the open trails range from 18-24 inches and snow coverage is wall-to-wall.

The Ski and Ride School of Heavenly is offering the full lineup of lessons, with multiple surface lifts and the Big Easy chairlift to serve beginners. Heavenly’s new Bear Cave kids’ center is open, providing a warm, state-of-the-art sanctuary for breaks during lessons.

Heavenly also features the region’s biggest early-season terrain park, with 26 features spread across two lines, featuring 30- to 40-foot jumps for the hard core riders, as well as a progression line for those just looking to achieve lift off.

Stagecoach Lodge will open with food and beverage, as well as rental and retail services.

With cold temperatures in the forecast, Heavenly plans to open the California side of the resort by Friday, conditions permitting.

Alpine Meadow Opens for the Season on Saturday, December 10

[Tahoe City, CA] December 7, 2011 – Alpine Meadows is slated to open for skiing and riding on Saturday, December 10. The Lake Tahoe resort has been actively making snow over the course of the past few weeks, in addition to several feet of natural snow that resort received in the last month.

Skiers and riders can kick-off winter on December 10 by taking their first turns of the season on the slopes accessed by the Roundhouse Chairlift, scheduled to spin from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For beginners, Alpine will also be running the Meadow Chairlift and the Sun Kids Magic Carpet (for lessons only). Alpine Meadows will also be hosting the North Lake Tahoe Learn to Ski and Board Weekend on December 10 and 11, offering beginner lift tickets, rentals and lessons for just $30 for first time skiers and snowboarders.

Opening day also marks the final two weeks in which skiers and riders can purchase the Tahoe Super Six. Available for just $399, the Tahoe Super Six offers six unrestricted days of skiing and riding at Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley. With absolutely no blackout dates, the Tahoe Super Six equates to six days of access to some of North America’s most coveted terrain for $66 per day. The Tahoe Super Six is available through December 25, 2011. The Tahoe Super Six is also available at $299 for young adults (ages 13 to 22) and seniors (ages 65 to 75), and at $149 for kids (ages 5 to 12) and super seniors (ages 76+).

Through Squaw's new "Turn in Your Ticket" program, skiers and riders will be able to turn in their 2011-12 lift tickets on the day of purchase at Special Tickets in the main lodge, and receive the full amount off of the purchase of a Tahoe Super Pass – providing season-long access to both Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley.

Squaw and Alpine Meadows Host $30 Learn to Ski and Board Weekend

Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows offer beginner lift tickets, lessons and full rental packages for $30 to first time skiers and riders

[Olympic Valley, CA] December 6, 2011 – This weekend, beginner skiers and riders can take their first turns on the snow at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows for just $30 including a beginner lift ticket, rental equipment and lessons during the 12th Annual Learn to Ski and Board Weekend. Slated for Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11, North Lake Tahoe Learn to Ski and Board Weekend is specifically tailored to beginners (ages 3 and older) who want to learn a new snow sport.

Learn to Ski and Board Weekend at Squaw and Alpine offers unique learning stations, meaning skiers and riders can start at one station to learn a specific skill and progress onto the next station once they have mastered it. Since everyone learns at a different pace, beginners can spend as much or as little time at each station as they choose throughout the day. Lessons will be offered continuously from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to adult lessons at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, Squaw is offering $30 beginner kids ski and snowboard lift ticket, lesson, rental packages at Squaw Kids. Kids 13 and under can take either a morning or an afternoon lesson. Morning lessons registration is from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. with pick up at 12:15 p.m., and afternoon lesson registration is prior to 1 p.m. with pick up at 3:45 p.m. Reservations for kids lessons are required, and can be made by calling Squaw Kids at (530) 452-7225.

Squaw and Alpine Meadows Announce a Pilot Study to Determine Possibility of Backcountry Access Gates

Management staff working closely with United States Forest Service toward development of plan and policy

[Olympic Valley, CA] December 2, 2011 – Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are announcing a new pilot study to determine the possibility of creating backcountry access gates permitting on-snow travel between Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. During the 2011-12 winter operating season Squaw and Alpine Meadows management, ski patrols from both resorts, and the US Forest Service will begin a pilot study to investigate the possibility of creating several backcountry access gates permitting travel between Squaw and Alpine Meadows. If successful, the pilot study would result in a policy which could permit skiers and riders with specialized backcountry training and equipment to access the wilderness land connecting Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows.

“We will be working with closely with our partner, the United States Forest Service, to conduct the pilot study,” said Andy Wirth, CEO of both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. “With the safety of our guests and our team members as our primary concern, we will be doing our due diligence to determine whether or not backcountry access between Squaw and Alpine Meadows is a possibility.”

Since Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows joined under common ownership this fall, both resorts can be accessed on one lift ticket or season pass for the 2011-12 winter season. Shuttles will run constantly between Squaw and Alpine Meadows this winter, providing convenient and quick access between the two resorts.

The boundary management policies of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows will remain much the same as they have in previous years. With the exception of the conditions dependent pilot study, Squaw Valley’s boundary will remain closed as it has in prior years. The Alpine Meadows Ski Area boundary will be managed as it has been in the past. The project will include route selection, potential issues relating to backcountry access during in-bounds closures, search and rescue issues, and interface with private land and wilderness areas.

The goal of the pilot study will be to determine whether or not feasible locations for backcountry access gates exist – and if so, where the best locations would be in terms of topography and exposure. The pilot study will be launched when adequate snow conditions have been reached.
