Squaw Valley Opens for the Season on Wednesday, November 23

[Olympic Valley, CA] November 22, 2011 – Squaw Valley is slated to open for skiing and riding on Wednesday, November 23. The Lake Tahoe resort recently received over half a foot of snow, and snowmaking efforts have been going full force since Halloween. The National Weather Service has noted that La Niña, which brought a record-breaking 810 inches to Squaw last winter, has re-emerged in the tropical Pacific Ocean and is forecast to gradually strengthen and continue into winter - meaning possible repeat large snow totals for this winter season.

Skiers and riders can kick-off winter on November 23 by taking their first turns of the season on the slopes accessed by the Red Dog and Exhibition chairlifts, scheduled to spin from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Squaw Valley's Snowsports School will be open in a brand new location, offering private and group lessons to help skiers and snowboarders get back in the groove. Squaw's renovated ski and snowboard rental shops will also be opening on November 23 with a full new rental fleet of top of the line Salomon skis and boards.

Opening day marks the soft opening of Squaw Valley’s new SnoVentures Activity Zone, offering new mini snowmobiles for kids and snowtubing for the entire family. Guests can also take a scenic ride up Squaw Valley’s Aerial Tram to enjoy dining and ice skating overlooking Lake Tahoe.

Opening day also marks the final week in which skiers and riders can purchase a Tahoe Super Pass at the current reduced rates. Starting at just $439, the Tahoe Super Pass is the first pass in ski resort history to offer season-long, interchangeable access to both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. Tahoe Super Passes are on sale now and available at these incredible rates through November 30.

Through Squaw's new "Turn in Your Ticket" program, skiers and riders will be able to turn in their 2011-12 lift tickets on the day of purchase at the Tickets, Passes and Snowsports Center, and receive the full amount off the purchase of a Tahoe Super Pass before prices go up after November 30.

Squaw Valley will be starting the season off with early-season discounted lift tickets. Adults can ski all day for $59, youth and seniors for $49, super seniors and kids 12 and under for $25. Julia Mancuso and Squaw Valley Head to the World Cup in Aspen

In honor of the first race of the season, Squaw Valley and Olympic Gold Medalist Julia Mancuso launch an eBay auction to support High Fives Non-Profit Foundation

[Olympic Valley, CA] November 18, 2011 – Squaw Valley’s team is heading to the FIS Alpine World Cup in Aspen on November 26 and November 27 to cheer on the Lake Tahoe resort’s Olympic Gold Medalist, Julia Mancuso, as she takes on the fastest female skiers in the world. A Squaw skier since age 2, Julia Mancuso is one of the fastest women in ski racing – having won an Olympic Gold Medal, two Silver Medals and first place in final race of last year’s World Cup season.

In honor of the first major ski racing competition of the season, Squaw Valley and Julia Mancuso are launching a special eBay auction to benefit the High Fives Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping winter action sports athletes with life-altering injures get back on their feet. The auction went live on eBay today at 12 p.m. PST, and will run through November 28, 2011.
