SQUAW VALLEY SKI TEAM AWARDED 2009 ALPINE CLUB OF THE YEAR
Squaw Valley Ski Team honored as top ski racing program in the country by United States Ski and Snowboard Association for the second time in four years

[Squaw Valley USA] May 6, 2009- For the second time in four years the Squaw Valley Ski Team was awarded Alpine Ski Racing Club of the year by the United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA). The awards will be presented at the USSA Congress 2009 Chairman’s Awards Dinner on May 15, 2009.

“The club of the year is presented to a USSA Competition Club in each sport, which has distinguished itself in providing direction to young athletes through high-level competition programs resulting in athletic success,” USSA CEO Bill Marolt wrote in a letter to the winning clubs.

This recent accolade solidifies the Squaw Valley Ski Team’s perennial powerhouse status, as the team was also named USSA Alpine Club of the Year in 2006.

“A huge part of our success comes from the overwhelming support from the various departments around the mountain. It is the commitment from the mountain and the incredible terrain we have to train on that enable us to produce the racers we do, year after year,” says Squaw Valley Ski Team Head Coach Mark Sullivan.

The announcement of the Squaw Valley Ski Team being named 2009 Alpine Club of the Year comes as Squaw Valley USA prepares to celebrate its 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Olympics in the 2009-10 season.
