Squaw and Alpine CEO Andy Wirth Joins Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board
Andy Wirth, president and CEO of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows is appointed to the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority Board as ski resorts continue to invest in the destination resort experience

[Olympic Valley, Calif.] July 17, 2013 – The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority recently announced the addition of three new board members and a new chairman to coincide with the new fiscal year starting this month. Among the new board members is Andy Wirth, president and CEO of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows who was appointed to represent the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority.

Wirth has extensive experience in international resort management and has worked with various airlines to develop more flights for resorts in Utah, Colorado and Canada. He is looking forward to serving as a liaison between Lake Tahoe and the Reno-Sparks region while representing an airport that is the Gateway to the Sierra.

“I am truly honored to accept this appointment on behalf of the RSCVA,” said Andy Wirth, president and CEO of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. “Having worked extensively with airport operations and with major air service programs and carriers, I believe that the Reno-Tahoe Airport maintains exceptional operational characteristics, has a terrific, recently enhanced terminal, and is located conveniently, 47 minutes from the door of the terminal to the very base of our mountain.”

Wirth’s appointment comes during a time of unprecedented investment among the Lake Tahoe ski resorts as the region seeks to attract more destination visitors. Last winter, the Lake Tahoe resorts invested more than $100 million in ongoing capital improvements designed to enhance the guest experience. Bucking the industry trend of reduced capital spending in recent years, Lake Tahoe resorts have invested in new chairlifts, mid-mountain lodges, base area renovations and additional guest amenities.

“I will be working very diligently to help bring in more nonstop flights from key markets, an effort which supports the goals of our company and which, more importantly, benefits all of the citizens and businesses in the region,” continued Wirth.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority also announced that Adam Mayberry, of Sparks, was named chairman of the nine member board and Nat Carasali and Bob Larkin were sworn in as new members. In addition to the new Trustees, the Board also named officers for the fiscal year:

Board Chairman: Adam Mayberry
Vice Chairman: Nat Carasali
Secretary: Rick Murdock
Treasurer: Dr. Kosta Arger
Other Trustees include Jerry Hall, Steve Katzmann and Bill Eck.

Trustees are appointed to the board by the City of Reno, City of Sparks, Washoe County and the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority. Reno-Tahoe International is ranked as the second most efficient airport in North America and does not operate on local tax dollars.

Come Sunday night, MarchFourth Marching Band performs with an explosive kaleidoscope of musical and visual energy that inspires dancing in an atmosphere of celebration.

Festival goers can listen to continuous live jazz and funk music on two stages while sampling more than 40 brews including Deschutes, Gordon Biersch, Lagunitas, Lost Coast, New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, and Tahoe Mountain Brewery. Saturday, August 10

2 p.m. – Mojo Green
Mojo Green is a collective of individuals whose musical mission is to move the people on the dance floor with their horn-driven, Funkajazzadelic dance grooves. The journey is never over, it is always just the beginning. Mojo Funk delivers a non-stop, high-energy funk freight train at every show. http://www.mojogreenmusic.com/about

3:30 p.m. and 5:50 p.m (Second Stage) – The Mark Sexton Band
When it comes to Mark Sexton's music, it's all about the meaning of the soul. Every note from his jazz guitar screams passion, every lyric from the heart. Sexton is the walking, talking representation of a true artist, with resonating chords that strike deep in the hearts of his listeners. It's these qualities that are making him the new West-Coast breakout artist of 2013. After six years of relentless traveling, Mark Sexton Band is now a perfectly groomed national touring act. Joined by bassist Alex Korostinsky and drummer Dan Weiss, this power-trio is striking while the iron is hot. http://marksextonband.com/

4 p.m. – Nigel Hall Band
Nigel Hall is an honest, humble guardian of soul music. When asked about himself, Nigel reflects, "I'm just someone who lives, eats, drinks music." This ethic becomes clear when Nigel takes the stage. A mainstay on the Portland, ME scene, Nigel has recently toured with the funk powerhouse Lettuce. His energetic vocals add yet another layer of sonic depth and energy to the all-star cast. Nigel is also an established keyboardist, currently working in the studio with Chapter 2, featuring Eric Krasno, Adam Deitch, and Louis Kato. http://www.royalfamilyrecords.com/nigelhall

6 p.m. – Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue (Headlining Act)
Since the release of their Grammy®-nominated 2010 debut album Backatown, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue have grown creatively while winning hordes of new fans performing nonstop on five continents. Their latest album, For True, offers substantive proof of their explosive growth, further refining the signature sound Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews has dubbed “Supafunkrock.” http://www.tromboneshorty.com/Default.aspx#!all

Sunday, August 11

2 p.m. – Jellybread
Jelly Bread is a tour de force of full frontal funk, thoroughly steeped in a Rock-Americana style with a rollicking indie alt-rock radio appeal. Their mix of in-the-pocket drum and bass grooves, swampy lap steel guitar, dirt under the fingernails guitar licks, and take-’em-to-church organ is downright appetizing—bright colors and sweet, funky flavors. http://www.reverbnation.com/jellybread

3:30 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. (Second Stage) – Teraplane
Fast and funky dance beats, mellow hip-hip infused grooves, jazzy instrumentals with a little latin flavor, Terraplane brings all these styles together in a musical infusion that has the power to make any listener jump up and shake it. From revamped, refunked classic grooves, to tasty home-brewed originals, this band brings the party, and the FUNK. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Terraplane-Tahoe-Funk/170115906357502

4 p.m. – Zigaboo Modeliste & New Aahkesstra
Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste is a master drummer, rhythm innovator, percussionist, and New Orleans legend. The most highly acclaimed drummer ever to hail from the Crescent City, Ziggy’s creativity has been a wellspring of funk influence for three decades and inspired many Hip-Hop tracks. He is a master of creating funk grooves and new concepts for funk drumming. Zigaboo’s music consistently demonstrates that “Modeliste is the most brilliant American Funk percussionist of the Contemporary Era!” http://georgeporterjr.com/

6 p.m. – MarchFourth Marching Band (Headlining Act)
Aside from their marching band themed costumes, as well as the 5-piece percussion corps and 7-part brass section, M4 is far from a “marching band” in any traditional sense (though this group of about 20 has been known to parade down Main Street before taking the stage). M4 is anchored by funky electric bass and has been evolving into a more guitar- and vocal-driven musical experience. The show will take you on a journey from the swamps of Louisiana to the gypsy camps of eastern Europe to the African jungle by way of Brazil, echoing the deepest grooves of American funk, rock, and jazz then boiling it all together in cinematic fashion with high-stepping stilt-acrobatics and dazzling dancers. http://marchfourthmarchingband.com/
