Happy to announce that the Heavenly Gondola opens today, Friday, June 18, for summer operation.

Want to get those panoramic views of Lake Tahoe that are only found in magazines and art studios? Well now it's possible to capture an aerial view of the lake and mountains, adding your very own artistic flare, with a ride up the Heavenly Gondola. The awe-inspiring journey begins at the Heavenly Village where guests board eight-person, enclosed gondola cabins for the 2.4 mile-ride up the mountain to 9,123 feet, nearly 3,000 feet above the lake. The Deck, two-thirds of the way up, offers unparalleled views of the Desolation Wilderness, Carson Valley and, of course, the sparkling waters of Lake Tahoe. Just make sure you stop at The Deck on the way up, because there's no access on the way down!

At the top of the Gondola, Adventure Peak provides fun for the entire family, including hiking, rock climbing and other kid-specific activities. Please note that because of snow, there will be NO ACCESS TO HIKING. We'll update the blog when the hiking trails are open.

We will offer the Spider Climber and Rock Climbing Wall from 11am to 4pm. The Adventure Peak BBQ, Umbrella Bar and Cafe Blue will all be open from 11am to 3pm.

The weather should be nice up there this weekend, but we're recommending layers and a windbreaker, as well as sturdy, outdoor shoes. The Adventure Peak area is pretty thawed out, but there is still a lot of snow around and can create some soggy conditions.

Please remember that the Gondola is a non-smoking activity. Definitely not in the cabins, not at the base and only in one designated spot at the top.

Also remember that this is the final weekend to secure your 2010-11 Heavenly season ski or snowboard pass for only $339. It's the perfect last-minute Father's Day gift! $49 down locks in the price and secures your Buddy Tickets, which are no longer offered after June 20. The Heavenly Pass is the best ski/snowboard value at Lake Tahoe's best mountain!

In addition to mountaintop ice skating, dining, swimming, tennis and hiking, guests will now be able to enjoy mountain biking, paintball, zip-lining and disc golf at Lake Tahoe’s premier resort. The opening dates for Squaw Valley’s new summer activities will vary pending snow melt conditions.

Safety gear, attachable trail-a-bikes and trailers for children will also be available for rent.

Paintball
Paintball, the sport rapidly sweeping the nation, is coming to Squaw Valley this summer. Squaw Valley’s paintball arena will open at High Camp, Squaw’s mountaintop oasis for summer activities. NEW BIKE SHOP OPENS AT SQUAW VALLEY USA THIS SATURDAY

[Squaw Valley USA] June 8, 2010 – Squaw Valley’s ski rental shop transforms into a full-service bike rental shop opening this Saturday, June 12. The shop, located at the base of the mountain, will feature downhill and freeride bikes for mountain biking as well as comfort cruisers for the paved bike path. Bike rentals will be available for both kids and adults, and attachable trailers and trail-a-bikes will be available for small children.

“I think the addition of the bike shop will bring a lot to Squaw Valley. Squaw is such a great place to be all year long, and now guests will have the opportunity to explore it for themselves on two wheels,” said Roy Hage, Bike Shop Manager.

Located on one of America’s most renowned Class 1 bike trails, Squaw Valley USA has access to some of the best trail biking in the country. Bikers can follow the trail along the Truckee River from Squaw to the sparkling blue waters of Lake Tahoe. Safely separated from the Route 89, the trail provides an incredibly scenic and safe way to tour the Tahoe area.

“Biking from Squaw to Tahoe City and back is great way to spend the afternoon with friends and family. The trail is a smooth, friendly ride as it follows the Truckee River all the way to Lake Tahoe,” said Hage.
