SQUAW VALLEY SKI CORP COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF
THE VILLAGE AT SQUAW VALLEY USA
[Squaw Valley USA] January 29, 2010 – Squaw Valley USA announced today that it has completed the acquisition of The Village at Squaw Valley, a four-season mountain resort village at the base of the legendary ski resort and site of the VIII Winter Olympic Games, Squaw Valley USA.

“We at Squaw Valley USA are very pleased to integrate the Village at Squaw Valley with our own operations, to provide a seamless resort experience for our guests. It is a reversal of philosophy as Squaw Valley Ski Corp has not operated a lodging property for 30 years. When we opened in 1949 we ran a small 50-room lodge that was occupied during the Olympics in 1960; it grew in size but our operation of this property ceased in 1979. And so, the acquisition of the Village represents an exciting and greatly anticipated opportunity,” explains Squaw Valley USA Chairman & CEO Nancy Cushing.

In 2002, the addition of the European-style village brought the off-hill experience at Squaw Valley up to par with the sought-after terrain and mountain offerings. The Village at Squaw Valley was developed by Intrawest and incorporates a pedestrian village that brings commercial tenants and residential properties to the Squaw experience. The transaction includes all of Intrawest’s real estate holdings and operational assets including lodging operations at two condo-hotels and commercial assets whose tenants include six restaurants, 20 retail shops and a full service spa. With the transaction completed, Squaw Valley Ski Corp will oversee all of the day-to-day operations of The Village at Squaw Valley in addition to their current ownership of the on-mountain operations at the ski resort, Squaw Valley USA.

This winter season, it will be business as usual for resort guests. All 2009-2010 winter vacation reservations will be honored, and vacation packages and homeowner information will continue to be available at http://www.thevillageatsquaw.com

“Squaw Valley USA and Intrawest are working closely together to ensure a smooth transition for stakeholders, team members and visitors to our unique mountain resort and to expand its environmental stewardship to these new facilities,” says Cushing.

WORLD’S TOP FREERIDERS SLATED TO MAKE HISTORY COMPETING ON PERMANENTLY CLOSED TERRAIN AT FREERIDE WORLD TOUR’S NISSAN TRAM FACE - SQUAW VALLEY USA, FEBRUARY 27 – MARCH 5, 2010
[Squaw Valley USA] January 21, 2010 - January 21, 2010 – The world's best skiers and snowboarders are battling it out again for the Freeride World Tour Championship title at four of the world's most prestigious ski resorts. It all starts on the Russian slopes of Sochi, followed closely by the next stage in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, France. The Tour then journeys to Squaw Valley USA for the only North American stop to “ride” the mythical Tram Face that has never before successfully opened for competition, as weather deterred the event (and first legal descent) from taking place in 2009. The stage is set for a second attempt to make history on the permanently closed terrain during Nissan Tram Face – Squaw Valley USA on February 27, 2010.

“It is with great satisfaction that we announce the Freeride World Tour's third season. This year the Tour will be staged in some of the world's most renowned ski resorts. Our partner, Nissan, co-founder of the Tour, continues its unwavering support. Swatch, among other partners is reinforcing its involvement by presenting two of the Freeride World Tour's stages this year. Ensured by the participation of the world's top freeriders, we are very keen for the FWT's third season to kick off” comments Nicolas Hale-Woods, founder of the Freeride World Tour.

Nissan Tram Face - Squaw Valley USA – Freeride World Tour
In Squaw Valley’s 60 years of operation, the steep rock face below Tower 1 of the Cable Car (known as the “Tram Face”) has remained strictly off-limits. Its steep and seemingly un-skiable pitch and permanent closure have made it a coveted line among the freeride set that calls the mountain home. This winter, during the Nissan Tram Face – Squaw Valley USA, February 27 – March 5, only the world’s top international skiers and snowboarders descend on the legendary resort in an attempt to stake their claim on the hairy terrain. Last year’s event was slated to be the first-ever Tram Face opening, but a massive snow storm moved the competition to Squaw’s Silverado bowl; pushing the first legal opening of the Tram Face to 2010. Now the athletes are even hungrier and the spectators more eager than ever for history to be made on Squaw’s Tram Face at the 2010 Freeride World Tour’s only North American stop. As would be expected of such a headlining event, the valley will erupt with street parties, live music, and other festivities all week long. www.freerideworldtour.com

“The level among the riders has increased constantly since the first edition of the Tour. It is no longer enough to be a great skier to take part of the Tour. Physical and mental preparation, thorough inspection of the competition face, and top gear, are all important elements that has helped develop freeriding to a professional sport, becoming more and more known by the broad public,” says Freeride World Champion 2009 Aurélien Ducroz of France.

A testament to Squaw Valley’s paramount terrain and Freeride training ground, 4 of the 9 US athletes invited to compete on the World Tour hale form Squaw Valley USA. The Squaw brood includes 2008 Women’s Ski Freeride World Tour Champion Elyse Sagstad, 2009 Men’s Snowboard Freeride World Tour Tram Face Champion Jeremy Jones, former Squaw Valley Ski Team alpine racer and ski film star, Cody Townsend, freeskiing and BASE jumping legend JT Holmes, and 23 year old Tim Dutton who was raised in the shadow of the elusive Tram Face at the base of Squaw Valley.

“The reason I strived so much to get on the Freeride World Tour is because there is no Olympics in extreme skiing. [The Freeride World Tour] is the end of the line right there . . . so for me, being able to compete on the tour is amazing, it’s definitely where the top athletes are today and where it’s going on,” says Tim Dutton, Squaw Valley freerider taking on his childhood heroes on the esteemed Freeride World Tour beginning in Sogchi, Russia. About the Freeride World Tour:
The Freeride World Tour was initiated in 2008 and consecrated by the participation of the world's elite freeriders: men, women, skiers and snowboarders alike. They tour the planet's most radical faces in pursuit of the world freeride title. The Freeride World Tour has achieved full recognition by the world's most accomplished athletes, the prestigious ski resorts hosting its events, and by the media, thanks to FWT's quality organization and choice of locations. Particular care and emphasis is put on security, contest format, and judging. Independent qualification events certified “Freeride World Qualifiers” are also on the calendar. This allows large numbers of riders to appear in the Nissan Freeride World Ranking, the world's unique freeriding rating authority, in order to qualify for the Freeride World Tour.

50/60 ANNIVERSARY SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

SQUAW VALLEY AND NORTH LAKE TAHOE CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF OLYMPIC LEGACY, JAN 8-17, 2010
Torch Relay, Opening Ceremony Fireworks, January 8
Resort at Squaw Creek Hosts 1960 Olympic Legends Gala on January 16
[Squaw Valley USA] January 4, 2010 - In honor of the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Squaw Valley Olympic Winter Games, Squaw Valley USA and North Lake Tahoe are hosting a week-long celebration January 8 through January 17. Complete with fireworks, hockey, ski racing, a retro party and a grand gala, this week promises to bring back the magic of the 1960 Winter Games.

The week kicks off with an Opening Celebration and fireworks display at the Village at Squaw Valley USA. The Village streets will come alive as 1960s Olympians return to the Valley, many for the first time since the 1960 Winter Games. Local Olympians are set to run a torch relay from Sugar Pine Point State Park on the West Shore up to Squaw Valley where the resort will reignite the Olympic flame. Following speeches by Uncle E, Jonny Moseley and Squaw Valley CEO Nancy Cushing, the sky will erupt into a gorgeous fireworks display visible from the Village and the KT Sundeck.

With the ten day celebration culminating in the 1960 Olympic Legends Gala, revelers have the opportunity to mingle and dance with 1960 Olympic Legends and Olympians past and present in the Grand Ballroom at the Resort at Squaw Creek. In attendance are 1960 Olympic Legends Penny Pitou, the 1960 Hockey Team Coach Jack Riley, Osvaldo Ancinas, Starr Walton, Babette Haueisen, as well as other Olympians past and present. A multi media presentation depicting mountain culture in 1960 kicks off the evening. The Gala comes alive with live music and dancing, and delicious cuisine by Chef Jason Friendly, champagne and a silent auction bring in an element of winter sports nostalgia. Cocktail reception begins at 5 pm with dinner at 6 pm. Ticket proceeds benefit the Squaw Valley Olympic Museum and Winter Sports Heritage Center. Tickets are on sale now at www.squawvalleymuseum.org/store.html.

The Olympic Heritage Celebration welcomes a wide variety of events celebrating the 1960 Winter Olympic Games. Sugar Pine Point State Park is hosting a biathlon and Nordic racing, while Squaw Valley USA is recreating the original men’s and women’s downhill courses, open for guided tours by past Olympians. On Thursday, January 14, Squaw Valley commemorates the astounding success of the 1960 Hockey Team, the first ‘miracle on ice’, with a day of hockey exhibitions at High Camp and a 1960 US Olympic Hockey Team tribute dinner at The Light Towers, a new spot in the Olympic House.

The 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics saw many firsts. It was the first time the Olympic Games were held in the Western United States, the first time the Games were nationally televised and the first time computers were used to calculate scores. The 1960 Winter Games were also the first and only time that the Olympic athletes were housed under one roof. In a time before grooming machines, sponsorship contracts and HD Television, the 1960 Olympics revolved around ideals of simplicity, athleticism and international camaraderie.
To honor this legacy, North Lake Tahoe invites the public to come out for this once in a lifetime week of events and celebrate the region’s Olympic heritage.

THE CABLE CAR CAFÉ BRINGS DELICIOUS FOOD FOR SKIERS AND RIDERS ON-THE-GO
[Squaw Valley USA] December 31, 2009 - This season, Squaw Valley USA welcomes a new restaurant to its list of dining options. Located in the Cable Car Lobby, the all-new Cable Car Café boasts a variety of options including everything from pizza and burgers to sushi and gourmet salads. The Café offers a wide selection of grab-and-go items, perfect for Squaw Valley skiers and riders who want to get their fill on the way to fresh tracks. The Cable Car Café is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner during Cable Car hours, from 7 am to 8 pm Sunday through Thursday and 7 am to 10 pm Friday and Saturday.

Since it opened on November 21, the Cable Car Café has become an employee favorite at Squaw Valley USA. Josh Susman, Head of Guest Services, recommends the Chicken Philly Cheesesteak, while his colleague Dave McCormick claims the Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger is, “the best in the world.” Luckily, the food is affordable as well as delicious. All items are under $10 with the exception of dinner entrees, and kids’ meals are only $5!

Diners can choose from a wide variety of grab-and-go menu items or more substantial take-out meals. The Cable Car Café also sells hats, goggles and gloves for skiers and riders who forgot something at home or lost an item on the hill. Squaw Valley employees take note: the Cable Car Café accepts employee meal cards and provides free coffee for employees who bring their own cup.

More information on food and dining options at Squaw USA is available at www.squaw.com. A complete Cable Car Café menu is available at www.cablecarcafe.com.
