Squaw Valley USA Hires JP Martin at New Terrain Park Manager

[Squaw Valley USA] September 20, 2010 – Squaw Valley USA is pleased to announce the appointment of JP Martin as the mountain’s new Terrain Park Manager. JP comes to Squaw Valley with 19 years of experience in the ski and snowboarding industry and a resume that includes experience at Whistler, Mt. Hood, Jackson Hole and many resorts in Japan. Most recently, Martin worked as the Terrain Park Manager at Sugar Bowl Resort on Donner Summit in Lake Tahoe, CA.

Martin has built terrain park features for some of the best pro skiers and riders in the industry; however, he remains dedicated to providing younger generations with a consistent venue where they can progress in the sport.

“I grew up right when all of the skate parks were being closed and bull-dozed, I wanted to do my part to make sure the parks on the mountains didn’t end up the same way. Some of the original terrain parks were huge, and there was no way to work your way up, great for the established pros, but not if you were just getting started,” said Martin.

This winter season, Squaw Valley is greatly expanding their night skiing with improved lighting in the Riviera Terrain Park and halfpipe. With any lift ticket, skiers and riders can hit the slopes from 9am to 9pm on weekends (9am to 7pm midweek) during the high winter season. The new lights will mean big things for skiers and riders looking to get their fill of park riding.

“I’m really looking forward to this season,” said Martin. “I’ve had a long indirect relationship with Squaw through association with many of the mountain’s athletes, and I’m honored to be joining the Squaw Valley team.”
