Line-up Announced for the 12th Annual Brews, Jazz and Funk Fest at Squaw Valley
The Brews, Jazz and Funk Fest Returns to The Village at Squaw Valley August 10 & 11 with an incredible line-up of jazz and funk acts


[Olympic Valley, Calif.] July 17, 2013 – Two days of explosive musical talent takes over The Village at Squaw Valley August 10-11. Headlining act, Academy Award nominated Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue light up the stage Saturday night with their “supafunkrock” style of music. Come Sunday night, MarchFourth Marching Band performs with an explosive kaleidoscope of musical and visual energy that inspires dancing in an atmosphere of celebration.

Festival goers can listen to continuous live jazz and funk music on two stages while sampling more than 40 brews including Deschutes, Gordon Biersch, Lagunitas, Lost Coast, New Belgium, Sierra Nevada, and Tahoe Mountain Brewery. Beers are $4 each, limited to ages 21 and older. A $5 entry donation to the festival is also requested. All proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.

The festival is open to all ages and well-behaved dogs on leashes. Kids can enjoy additional activities such as Squaw’s new outdoor climbing wall, free croquet, bean bag toss and slacklines, as well as a 18-hole miniature golf course and mountaintop activities. Mojo Green is a collective of individuals whose musical mission is to move the people on the dance floor with their horn-driven, Funkajazzadelic dance grooves. Nigel Hall is an honest, humble guardian of soul music. When asked about himself, Nigel reflects, "I'm just someone who lives, eats, drinks music." This ethic becomes clear when Nigel takes the stage. A mainstay on the Portland, ME scene, Nigel has recently toured with the funk powerhouse Lettuce. His energetic vocals add yet another layer of sonic depth and energy to the all-star cast. Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste is a master drummer, rhythm innovator, percussionist, and New Orleans legend. The most highly acclaimed drummer ever to hail from the Crescent City, Ziggy’s creativity has been a wellspring of funk influence for three decades and inspired many Hip-Hop tracks. He is a master of creating funk grooves and new concepts for funk drumming. 6 p.m. – MarchFourth Marching Band (Headlining Act)
Aside from their marching band themed costumes, as well as the 5-piece percussion corps and 7-part brass section, M4 is far from a “marching band” in any traditional sense (though this group of about 20 has been known to parade down Main Street before taking the stage). M4 is anchored by funky electric bass and has been evolving into a more guitar- and vocal-driven musical experience.
