Happy 4th of July from Squaw Valley USA! 6 lifts are spinning from 8am to 2pm offering 2,000 acres of summer skiing and riding. In addition to skiing and riding, the 4th of July brings live music to Gold Coast and drink specials and pool parties to the High Camp Swimming Pool and Hot Tub. Free commemorative 4th of July T-shirts will be available for all lift ticket holders and 2011-12 passholders today while supplies last.

Mammouth Weekly Bike Report

10 Trails + Kamikaze This Weekend!

After a great opening last weekend, the trail crews have been hard at work to provide even MORE riding for the upcoming holiday weekend.

Beginning Saturday, we will have 10 trails open including: Uptown, Downtown, Big Ring, Shotgun (check the new paver turn), Lower Paper Route, Juniper, Lakes Trail, Lower Bullet, Timber and (drum roll please...) Kamikaze! Riding top to bottom by July 4th after 55 feet of snow this winter. Nice!

Don't forget, we are still open for skiing and snowboarding through Monday, July 4th. Come ski and ride the Bike Park for just $79/day!

Kites Color the Sky at Squaw Valley's Soaring Kites & Music Festival July 9, 2011

[Squaw Valley USA] June 27 - Every July, Squaw Valley USA celebrates the art and sport of kite flying as host to the nation’s highest altitude organized kiting festival at High Camp, el. 8200’. Gigantic flying creatures, professional kite flyers, kite-making and face painting for the kids, and the live music are all part of the high-flying enjoyment of the 10th Annual Soaring Kites & Music Festival on Saturday, July 9, 2011.

The festival brings members of regional and national kite organizations to Squaw Valley’s mountaintop to launch dozens of elaborate and colorful kites. The Soaring Kites & Music Festival also includes live music, kite-making workshop for kids and professional kite flying demonstrations. Kite flying, which originated in 5th Century BC China, is now both a popular pastime and a competitive sport. The annual Soaring Kites & Music Festival is a celebration of the pleasure and fellowship that kite flying continues to conjure today.

The Soaring Kites & Music Festival is from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the kite-making workshop will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Guests are invited to bring their own kites or they can purchase kites at the festival. Kids of all ages can get their faces painted with whimsical designs from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

High Camp’s Swimming Pool & Hot Tub, Poolside Café, roller skating, hiking, paintball, disc golf and the lively Umbrella Bar provide endless fun throughout the festival. The Cable Car runs every 20 minutes from 10:40 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., and the High Camp Swimming Pool & Hot Tub will be open from 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

The Village at Squaw Valley Hosts Bluesdays Every Tuesday with Free Concerts Featuring Award-Winning Blues Artists

Bluesdays held every Tuesday in July & August featuring blues concerts, food specials & great deals

[Squaw Valley USA] June 24 – This summer, Bluesdays are back at The Village at Squaw Valley. The Village will host some of the best regional and national blues acts amidst spectacular views of the mountain. Guests can enjoy delicious blue plate food specials from local Village restaurants or kick back with a cold brew, glass of wine or cocktail available at the Blues Bar. Bluesdays performances will take place in the Village Events Plaza from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m every Tuesday in July & August.

Squaw Valley USA will celebrate every Bluesday with Blue Dot Deals on scenic Cable Car rides to High Camp, el. 8200’, which includes $10 off adult, senior and youth Cable Car tickets and $5 off kids Cable Car tickets. In conjunction with the weekly blues performances, The Village is offering a Bluesdays lodging package that includes overnight accommodations in a condominium-style suite with an excellent view of the stage (based on availability). July 5 - John Nemeth
John Nemeth is a rising blues star; a singer steeped in the tradition and reminiscent of B.B. King, Ray Charles and Junior Parker, and a harmonica player of riveting intensity and virtuosity. Performing major music festivals around the United States, Europe, Canada and Asia has brought him critical acclaim.

July 12 - Studebaker John & The Hawks
Born in an Italian-American section of Chicago, Studebaker John Grimaldi started playing harmonica at age 7. As a songwriter and musician, Studebaker John has emerged as a major creative force in the world of the blues today. Ahead of the pack, with vision and foresight, creating a new standard and landscape for music’s future.

July 19 - Shannon McNally & Hot Sauce
Shannon McNally got her first guitar and JJ Cale album at the age of 12 and never looked back. Combined with the classic rock she grew up listening to – The Allman Brothers, Dr. John and Hendrix – it’s the musical center of gravity she brought to her 2002 Capitol Records debut Jukebox Sparrow gaining notice from Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Leno and Letterman.

July 26 - Anna Popovic (Yugoslavia)
Ana Popovic is an incredible guitarist/vocalist known for her diversity of techniques and styles. Her blend of smoking electric funk slide guitar, jazzy instrumentals, tight blues groove, soulful feminine vocals and Ana’s incredible stage presence makes her an irresistible force in the music world.

August 2 - Curtis Salgado
Curtis Salgado is a Portland, Oregon based blues, R&B and soul singer-songwriter. He plays harmonica and fronts his own band as lead vocalist. The Washington Post called Salgado a “Superb soul and blues singer.”

August 9 - Ronnie Baker Brooks
Like his father before him, Ronnie Baker Brooks became a Chicago blues mainstay, playing regularly in Chicago area clubs. After the release of his second album, Brooks hit the road for what turned out to be a seemingly non-stop three-year tour, picking up devoted new fans all along the way.

August 16 - Chris Cain
Chris Cain is a master of blues guitar, blues vocals, blues keyboards and blues vocals. Cain has been called “blues guitar at its finest, a must see.”

August 23 - Joanne Shaw Taylor
Within a year of performing her first band at age 16, Joanne Shaw Taylor performed with Dave Steward (Eurythmics) and Candy Dulfer (Prince) in the super group D.U.P, and today she is one of the best female blues guitarists around.

August 30 - Grand Finale: Roy Rogers & The Delta Rhythm Kings
Roy Rogers has been widely recognized as one of the world's finest practitioners and innovators of modern slide guitar. Rogers has been nominated for 8 Grammy's as producer, songwriter and performer. An exciting live performer, he has performed with Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Steve Miller, Linda Ronstadt, Sammy Hagar and many others. Rogers' has appeared at the world’s most prestigious festivals including Montreux, North Sea, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Featival - and festivals in Norway, Australia, France & Italy.


In addition to Bluesdays, The Village at Squaw Valley will host free Outdoor Movie Nights every Thursday in July and August. Families and friends can snuggle up under the stars while enjoying new releases and family classics on the big screen in the Events Plaza at The Village at Squaw Valley. A different movie shows every Thursday through August, weather permitting and movies begin at dusk. Blankets and warm clothes are recommended.
