STANDARD FILMS HOSTS WEST COAST PREMIERE OF BLACK WINTER AT SQUAW VALLEY USA, SEPTEMBER 4, 2009

Join Standard Films at the Olympic Village Lodge for the WEST COAST PREMIERE of their newest 16mm snowboard film presented by Monster Energy
[Squaw Valley USA] August 11, 2009– The West Coast Premiere of Standard Films’ BLACK WINTER presented by Monster Energy comes to Squaw Valley USA on Friday, September 4. Since 1991 Standard Films has chronicled the progression of snowboarding as it transpired in far away snowy lands and in Tahoe at Squaw Valley USA. Early on, big mountain snowboarding found a home on the slopes of Squaw Valley, thanks to Standard Films. Entering Squaw’s 60th Anniversary Season, it is impossible to look back at the emergence and evolution of snowboarding at Squaw Valley without recognizing Standard Films’ incredible influence. The entire community is invited to join Standard Films for the premiere of their newest snowboard movie BLACK WINTER on September 4, 2009.

The BLACK WINTER Premiere is at the Olympic Village Lodge in Squaw Valley. Doors open at 7 pm and the show starts at 8 pm. Tickets are on sale now at Porter’s (Tahoe City, Truckee, Incline Village) and the Squaw Valley Cable Car ticket window. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Following the showing of BLACK WINTER, a special guest performer takes the stage for an after-party. The cash bar during the film and after-party are 21 & up only. All premiere-goers who want to drink at the bar during the film and stay for the after-party must be 21+ and have valid I.D.

The winter of 2009 will go down in history as one of the most transitional times that snowboarding has ever faced. Unlike any winter ever before, snow conditions were either the best ever or the most dangerous of all time. Out of these dark times rises Standard Films new High Definition Film: Black Winter, a movie that showcases the unstoppable progressive nature of snowboarding and the insatiable hunger of the riders to put down segments that will stand the test of time.

Enter the BLACK WINTER and witness the arrival of the next era of underground shreds Halldor Helgason of Iceland, Torstein Horgmo from Norway, Jason Dubois from Quebec City and Lonnie Kauk of Mammoth Lakes. Heavyweight Andreas Wiig comes aboard this season with his strongest freestyle segment to date. Chas Guldemond, Eric Jackson and Mark Landvik all have their own stories to tell about their BLACK WINTER experiences, from life changing contest wins to heart pounding avalanches.

The BLACK WINTER West Coast Premiere is the perfect prelude to winter, as the 16mm film documents the world's best snowboarding, shot on location in Terrace, BC, Norway, Iceland, Haines, Squaw Valley USA, Park City, Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Crested Butte, Montreal, QC, and Switzerland.

BLACK WINTER sponsors include Monster Energy, DC, Lib Tech, Rossignol, O’Neill, Airblaster, The North Face, Squaw Valley USA, Snowboarder Magazine, K2 Snowboards, Transworld Snowboarding Japan Magazine, V.I.O., POV Camera Systems, Onboard Europe Magazine, and FUEL TV.
