Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows’ March Events Update

[Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows, Calif.] March 4, 2013 –There is plenty of fun to be had in the coming weeks at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. The calendar is chalk-full of a variety of events filling up March.See below for a complete listing of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows events for the month of March.


FEBRUARY EVENTS AT SQUAW VALLEY:

March 1-10: Oakley Week at Squaw Valley
The world-class athletes of winter sports rely on Oakley goggle technology and apparel innovation, and many of those top skiers and snowboarders call Squaw Valley home. This week provides opportunities for guests to work their skills on the snow, pick up pointers and learn about the gear the pros depend on in competition. Oakely Week brings a series of events to Squaw including personalized coaching with Oakley progression sessions; a Goggle Bar for customization; Goggle demos; O Lab Tours - a mobile demonstration unit; a Shred Hunt for amazing prizes; and the Oakley AM Jam and Oakley Legends competitions that will take place at Alpine Meadows. March 8: On The Snow Visitors’ Choice Awards at Squaw Valley
Join OnTheSnow.com and Squaw Valley to celebrate the Visitors' Choice Awards alongside Victorinox Swiss Army. Show your love for Squaw Valley and visit the OnTheSnow.com tent in the base area to cast a vote for the best ski area in America..

March 8- 11: Junior Freeride Tour at Squaw Valley
The Junior Freeride Tour will make its third North American stop right here at Squaw Valley. Juniors under the age of 18 will compete just like the adults in the Freeride World Tour. For more information visit www.juniorfreeridetour.com.

March 9: Can-Do Vertical Express at Squaw Valley
Teams of three skiers/riders raise a minimum of $500 to enter the Vertical Express for MS. The day's activities include on-snow events, exciting prizes, complimentary lift tickets, food and goodie bags. Proceeds from the event allow people with MS to live full, productive lives by supporting the Heuga Center's one, three and five day programs that help people with this incurable, neurological disease manage it to the best of their ability. March 9: Luna Fest
Join us for the fourth annual signature fundraiser for Girls on the Run Sierras, a local youth development program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Enjoy the award-winning film festival, sample cuisine from local chefs and tastings from California wineries – while supporting local and national charities benefiting girls and women. March 9: Squaw Valley’s Your Perspective Video Contest
This is a video contest geared for those who want to show the community what they're all about on the hill through the Your Perspective Video Contest. Contestants put together a short snowsports-related video edit. It can be radical, gnarly, funny or amusing. For more details visit, Your Perspective Facebook Page.

March 10: Snow Gods Ball at Squaw Valley
Join the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol team for the 21st annual Snow Gods Ball with live music by Mama's Cookin' and DJ's Rad Habbit and Rundown. Save $5 and get your tickets at Ski Patrol Base or call 530-452-7260, toll free at 800-403-0206. Tickets are $15 for advance purchase and $20 at the door. Come help support a great cause.

March 17: St. Patty’s Day Spring Party at Squaw Valley
Kick off the spring season at Squaw's St. Patty's Spring Party and celebrate the luck of the Irish. Soak up the California sunshine while enjoying a cold beverage on the KT Sundeck while listening to music provided by Leche De Tigre, or go skiing and riding with the lucky leprechaun. There is no better way to kick off spring and celebrate the luckiest day of the year than with good music, cold beverages and a ripping good time on the mountain.

March 20-24: Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships at Squaw Valley
The U.S. Alpine Championships are a culmination of the ski racing year which brings together the U.S. Ski Team and hundreds of young athletes from U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association club programs from across the country. March 30: Pain McShlonkey at Squaw Valley
Dress up in your most outrageous ski duds and come out to Squaw Valley for a day full of belly laughs, epic snowblading, camaraderie and philanthropy in celebration of legendary skier Shane McConkey.

March 23: Opening Pool Party
Squaw’s legendary mountaintop pool and hot tub are scheduled to open for spring on Saturday, March 23. Weekends bring unmatched DJ parties to the pool and hot tub, while weekdays make for a great time to bring the whole family to the pool for incredible spring family fun.

March 31: On-Mountain Egg Hunt at Squaw Valley
Squaw Valley’s annual on-mountain Easter egg hunt begins the moment the lifts open Sunday. Get that Easter basket ready and hunt for colored eggs all over the mountain.

Finish your day off right with free live après ski music in The Village with performances from the following. Music will be centrally located in The Village Events Plaza from 3-5 p.m.:

Dawn Patrol at Squaw Valley every Saturday and Sunday
Enjoy a unique early morning mountain experience with exclusive access to untouched corduroy or fresh powder depending on the weather. Dawn Patrollers arrive before the general public and take the Tram to High Camp before anyone else. Dawn Patrol meets at the Tram Building at 7:30 a.m. to take the 7:40 a.m. Tram. $29 for adults, $19 youth and $12 for kids 12 and under.

Sunday Mountaintop Service at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows
Give thanks and praise in the great outdoors every Sunday, led by Tahoe Resort Ministries. Services at Squaw Valley are held every Sunday at Squaw at 2 p.m. at the top of Big Blue Express. For those not skiing or riding, a Tram ticket is required. Services at Alpine Meadows are at the top of Roundhouse Chair every Sunday at 2 p.m. A day lift ticket or season pass is required. All are welcome.

Yoga SquawD
Breathe and stretch while you are away from home in the mountains. The Yoga SquawD will be offering complimentary yoga classes in the Mountain Stream Conference Room with special guest appearances from well known yoga instructors. Forget your mat? Mat will be available for use. The yoga schedule is as follows:

Free Avalanche Workshop at Squaw Valley
Ever wonder what causes an avalanche, or things to look for in snow conditions? If so, Squaw Valley Ski Patrol offers a free avalanche awareness and companion rescue workshop, twice a month to anyone who is interested in either polishing up their skills, or learning for the first time.

March Events at Alpine Meadows:
March 5:Oakley Local Legends Slopestyle Contest at Alpine Meadows
As part Oakley Week, Oakley will host the Oakley Local Legends Slopestyle competition in the Lower Firing Line of Alpine’s terrain park. This contest series is open to 30 skiers and 30 snowboarders per discipline. Participants must pre-register at www.Oakleyweek.com/squaw. This contest is free to enter but each participant must donate $10 to High Fives Foundation.

March 10: Oakley Amateur Slopestyle at Alpine Meadows
As part of Oakley Week, Oakley will host the Oakley AmJam contest in the Firing Line of Alpine’s terrain park. 16 and under compete in the upper half of the Lower Firing Line Terrain Park.This is a free snowboard event that will allow riders to show what they’ve got without the pressure of having to nail their best run in one or two attempts. Competitors will be able to make laps through the upper portion of the lower Firing Line through jumps and jibs. More details can be found at www.oakleyweek.com/squaw.

March 16: Alpine Meadows’ Spring Music Series Begins
The Alpine Spring Music Series features live music every weekend throughout the spring ski and snowboard season. Well known bands play at the Alpine Meadows sundeck, in the Alpine Bar or at the Ice Bar. All Spring Music Series concerts are free and family friendly. March 17: Alpine Meadows’ St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
Kick off the spring season with Alpine’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration. Soak up the California sunshine on the Alpine Sun Deck while enjoying Irish food and drink specials and live music from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.


March 30: Snowbomb Lil Air Mountain Festival at Alpine Meadows
Step aside big-air skiers and snowboarders, and make room for the Snowbomb Lil’ Air Mountain Festival.The Snowbomb Lil’ Air invites all boys and girls ages 12 and under to show off their individual ski and snowboard style on two roller jumps in Alpine’s Bunker terrain park, located near the base lodge. Competitors can choose the jump that best fits their ability level. Lil’ Air Mountain Festival registration is day-of and will take place upstairs in the main lodge from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
March 31: All-Mountain Easter Egg Hunt & Kids’ Easter Egg Hunt at Alpine Meadows

Make room in that Easter basket to fit a season pass to Alpine Meadows. Guests will have a chance to comb the mountain for a golden egg containing a Bronze Season Pass during the free, All-Mountain Adult Easter Egg Hunt. Hundreds of eggs will be hidden across all of Alpine’s 2400 acres, but only one will be gold. Arrive early, as this all-day hunt will commence when the lifts start moving at 9 a.m.

Ski school will host another annual favorite, the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt.There will be plenty of Easter candy for all. Children 7 and under can join the hunt that takes place at 10:15 a.m. at the Kids Camp Magic Carpet. For Children ages 8 -13, the egg hunt takes place at 10:15 a.m. at the Magic Carpet located off the Subway Chair. Visit www.Skialpine.com for more information.

March 31: Annual Beacon & Eggs Beacon Search Contest
Combine an Easter egg hunt with an avalanche beacon search practice session, and the result is the Beacon & Eggs Beacon Search Contest at Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. Avalanche beacons will be buried in a one-acre area in at Alpine Meadows and competitors will proceed to the buried treasure using their beacons in “search” mode. Competitors work individually or in teams (up to four people), sharing the prizes for recovering the beacon. Competitors redeem a found beacon for incredible prizes. The individual winner of the Alpine Meadows Beacon & Eggs contest will win a 2014 Bronze Tahoe Super Pass.

Free registration is at the Beacon & Eggs tent near the top of Subway Chair Lift (next to the base lodge) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The Le Mans-style start is at noon near the top of the Subway beginner lift, adjacent to the base lodge. Competitors must provide their own beacons, probes, and shovels
