Squaw Valley Ski Team Commences On-Snow Training

[Olympic Valley, CA] November 9, 2011 – Squaw Valley opened its slopes today to members of the resort’s Ski Team, kicking off training for the 2011-12 winter season. This unique training opportunity allows Squaw’s Far West athletes ages 9 and up to get a competitive edge among area race team programs. The athletes will be training on Squaw Valley’s Exhibition run, nearly a month before the official start of the training program. With over a foot of snow having already fallen this season and additional snowmaking efforts, Squaw Valley is scheduled to open to the public on November 23, 2011.

Squaw Valley’s Ski Team is renowned for producing some of the top alpine and freestyle skiing athletes in North America, from Tamara McKinney to Jonny Moseley. Squaw Valley has had skiers in nearly every Winter Olympic Games since the resort hosted the Games in 1960, having brought home many gold medals since.

With six athletes on the US Ski Team, Squaw currently has more athletes on the US Ski Team than any other club. Squaw Valley’s Olympic Gold Medalist Julia Mancuso, who won the final downhill of the 2010-11 World Cup season, and Olympian Marco Sullivan are part of the US Ski Team’s elite champions, closely followed by up-and-comers Travis Ganong, Nick Davis, Keith Moffat and Bryce Bennett. The US Ski Team announced their official 2012 roster last weekend on November 5, 2011.

Aspiring athletes in the Lake Tahoe area can be a part of Squaw Valley’s kids ski team more affordably than ever before. Squaw Valley reduced the price of their Tuesday/Thursday kids program by over fifty percent – meaning that parents of young skiers can save over $700 this winter. The program is suited for kids ages 4 to 10 who are looking to ski with coaches in a fun, learning environment on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Prices start at $499 and include a Gold Season Pass valid at both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows. For more details, please see squaw.com.
