Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows’ Events Update
Spring is in the air and April is the time to enjoy spring skiing and fun-filled events

[Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows, Calif.] April 1, 2013 -With extraordinary spring skiing, sunny skies and a complete calendar of events, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows provide plenty of entertainment to fill the month of April. The spring scene at Squaw and Alpine provide endless fun for skiers and riders who want to take advantage of the best spring conditions and who know how to have a good time. See below for more information about some of Squaw Valley’s and Alpine Meadows’ can’t-miss spring events for the month of April.

April 6:Red Bull Schlittentag at Alpine Meadows
Schlittentag is the German word for “sledding day.” Put simply, it translates as “daredevils willing to propel themselves down a snow-covered hill and over a jump on a sled they built themselves.” Three person teams will stretch their imagination to build the wildest, fastest sled this side of the Alps. One team member will be the pilot and the two others will help give their sled the push it needs to win the race and the fame and fortune that follows. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the first sled downhill is at 1:03 p.m. Awards and DJ party will ensue at 3:30 p.m. on the Sundeck. April 6: Retro Ski Day at Squaw Valley
Time to break out the rear-entry ski boots, neon one-piece and the ballet skis; Squaw plays a hilarious tribute to its Hot Dog and freeskiing roots with Retro Ski Day.

April 13: 30th Anniversary Snow Golf Tournament at Alpine Meadows
As the only top-to-bottom snow golf course, this highly anticipated spring event is a unique way to spend a day on the slopes. The nine-hole course starts at the top of Summit Express chair and meanders its way down the mountain with the last holes bringing competitors back to the bottom of Alpine Bowl Chair. Winners receive prizes including gift certificates, Alpine Meadows swag, and more. Golf tournament registration is free at the top of Summit Express.

April 13 -14: Snowbash at Squaw Valley

April 20: TRAINS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard Competition put on by High Fives
A great spectator event, Trains affords the opportunity to witness a world-class freestyle ski and snowboard contest at one of the most stunning locales in the Lake Tahoe basin. Alpine Meadows and Snow Park Technologies roll out all the stops with an amazing slopestyle course and spectator venue. A unique format at a competition unlike any other will showcase the talents of 30 competitors vying for top honors and the chance to donate over $5,000 to selected charities.

Date TBD: Cushing Crossing at Squaw Valley
Squaw Valley’s wacky end of season signature event, the Cushing Crossing, is the original pond skimming event where skiers and snowboarders ride down the slope and attempt to cross the freezing cold pond. Like Mavericks surf competition, the date for the Cushing Crossing is only anncounced when conditions are prime for pond skimming. For more details, visit www.squaw.com.


April 28: Mountain of Strings at Squaw Valley
Presented by Crystal Bay Club & Pet Projekt, Mountain of Strings brings Yonder Mountain String Band, the Del McCoury Band and Tony Furtado to Squaw Valley for a live performance from 4- 9 p.m. in an outdoor tent in front of the Squaw Valley Conference Center. Tickets are $40 at the door and $45 at the door.
