HOLIDAYS AT SQUAW BRING YULETIDE FESTIVITIES TO THE MOUNTAIN

[Squaw Valley USA] December 15, 2009 - Santa Claus on skis, Christmas carolers, movie nights, holiday parties, and the Christmas Eve torchlight parade are a few of the Holiday events and festivities bringing Yuletide cheer to the Squaw Valley community through the New Year. Throughout the holidays, every outing is colored with festive spirit as the village is sparkling and guests can enjoy shopping, dining and a variety of activities in the classic winter wonderland.

The marquee event of Holidays at Squaw takes place on Christmas Eve, as guests are treated to a special torchlight parade. A traditional family favorite, the Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade can be seen from anywhere in the Village or Squaw Valley base area. A beautiful procession of lights wows spectators as Squaw Valley Ski School instructors descend the lower mountain carrying brightly lit torches.

Holidays at Squaw come to a crescendo on New Year’s Eve when parties (for every age and reveler) erupt all over Squaw Valley, from High Camp, el. 8200’, down to the Olympic house and base Village bars. A Fireworks display kicks off the New Year; fireworks are scheduled to launch from the lower mountain at 9 pm on New Year’s Eve.

Starting Saturday, December 19, Squaw Valley opens for night skiing and riding. Guests can shred under the lights on Bailey’s Beach, Belmont Park, the Riviera Superpipe, and the 3.2 mile Mountain Run. Night skiing is FREE with any half or full day lift ticket and is offered every Friday and Saturday until 9 pm, and Sunday through Thursday until 7 pm.

Events and activities that bring on the spirit of the holiday season in the Squaw Valley Community.

December 19-Jan 2: Sierra Nevada Carolers
Carolers will be strolling through the Village from 4 pm until 6 pm.

December 19: Winter Night Operations Begin
Enjoy skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and dining under the starry sierra skies until 9 pm, Friday and Saturday and 7 pm, Sunday through Thursday. Twilight Dinner Specials are offered nightly at Alexander’s.

December 19: 18th Annual Snow God’s Ball
A benefit for the Squaw Valley Avalanche Awareness Education Fund. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $20 or in advance for $15 at the Ski Patrol Office or by calling 530-452-7260.

December 23-25: Sierra Nevada Chorale Performs
Everyone is welcome to join the Sierra Nevada Chorale for holiday caroling. Carolers will be filling the Village and base area with music from 3 to 5 pm.

December 19-24: Santa Visits the Village
Look for Santa near the Giant Holiday Tree & Big Chair for your holiday picture opportunity. (12-4 pm)

December 20 & 27: Sunday Mountaintop Services
Give thanks and praise in the great outdoors (at the top of Links Chair). Service is given by Tahoe Resort Ministries. Cable Car ride is free for those on foot. Service begins at 2 pm.

December 21: Squaw Valley Chapel presents a Winter Solstice Sing-a-long
Join the Squaw Valley Chapel for a sing-a-long in front of the Cable Car building at 4 pm.

December 22-25: Santa and his Elf hit the Slopes
Santa and his elf tour Squaw Valley USA spreading holiday cheer. Catch jolly old St. Nick skiing and snowboarding around the mountain, sliding rails in the Belmont Terrain Park, skating at the Olympic Ice Pavilion, assisting with lessons, and entertaining children at the Squaw Kids Ski School.

December 24: Christmas Eve Torchlight Parade
A traditional family favorite, the Christmas Eve torchlight parade can be seen from anywhere in the Village or Squaw Valley base area. Watch in amazement as Squaw Valley Ski School instructors descend the lower mountain carrying brightly lit torches in a beautiful procession of lights. Parade begins at dusk (approx 6 pm) on Christmas Eve. Details: 530-583-6985.

December 26: Squaw Stocking Scavenger Hunt
Find one of the 100 red Christmas stocking hidden around the mountain and win free lift tickets and other great prizes.

December 26 through January 3: Squaw Sessions Teen Ski & Snowboard Camp
Designed specifically for ski and snowboard crazed 13 to 18 year-olds, Squaw Sessions is coached by local pros who teach teens to take their skills to the next level. Reservations: 530-452-7263.

December 26 through January 2: Ski with Jonny Moseley
Ski with Squaw’s Chief Mountain Host and Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley. Tours meet at the top of the Funitel at 1 pm.

December 26: Apres Ski Music in the Village
Enjoy live music in the Village from 4 to 7 pm.

December 26: Jibbing for Jacksons
In this ‘best trick’ night jam session there are many winners, as riders are given a $20 bill (a Jackson) for every trick that impresses the judging panel of pro skiers and riders. The contest is open to skiers and snowboarder and is held on Searchlight (lower Exhibition).

December 29 - 30: Full Moon Snowshoe Tours
Guided by a knowledgeable tour leader and the light of the full moon, snowshoers trek to upper mountain vistas to take in spectacular views of the snow covered Sierra and Lake Tahoe. A mountaintop dinner at Alexander’s Restaurant, overlooking Lake Tahoe, can be an included option in the Full Moon Snowshoe Tour package. Pricing (all prices include snowshoe rentals): Snowshoe Tour (without lift ticket or season pass): $34 adult/ $29 youth/ $22 children. Snowshoe Tour (with lift ticket or season pass): $18 (all ages). Snowshoe Tour & Alexander’s Dinner Package: $59 per person (with or without lift ticket or pass). Full Moon Snowshoe Tours set off from High Camp, el. 8200,’ at 5:30 pm. Guests should plan on taking the 5 pm or 5:15 pm Cable Car to High Camp.

December 30: Family Movie Night
This post Christmas movie is shown on a big screen in the Olympic Village Lodge. The movie is free for all and begins at 6 pm. Movie snacks available for purchase.

December 31: Family New Year’s Eve Celebration @ High Camp
An ideal New Year’s Eve alternative for early birds and families is the Mountaintop New Year’s Eve Dinner Celebration at High Camp, 8200’. The all-ages soiree includes a starry-night Cable Car ride, buffet dinner, activities and entertainment for kids, and a 9 pm East Coast New Year’s champagne toast (sparkling apple cider for the youngsters). Times: 6 to 9 pm. Tickets will be available at www.squawshop.com and in Squaw Valley’s Special Tickets office. Cost: $84 for Adults and $49 for Kids (includes Cable Car ride). December 31: Fresh Tracks New Year’s Eve Extravaganza
Squaw Valley’s “mature” guests can choose from a myriad of New Year’s Eve celebrations including the biggest party on the North Shore in the Olympic House. The Fresh Tracks New Year’s Eve Party hosts three parties in one, with live music and house DJ beats in all three Olympic House bars. Tickets are $15 and guests must be 21 & older with a valid ID.

December 31: Fireworks
Launched at 9 pm from Exhibition, the Firework display will be visible from the Village and base area.

December 31: 50/60 New Year’s Eve Party
This party is also in the Olympic House and kicks off at 9 pm.

January 1: Lift Operators’ Snow Sculpture Contest

January 1: Squaw Twitter Scavenger Hunt
Star the New Year off by following Squaw’s Tweets to win lift tickets and other great prizes.
