Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows’ Present a Fun-Filled February Events Schedule

[Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows, Calif.] January 29, 2013 – Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows have a schedule packed full of fun-filled events throughout the entire month of February. Watch the Ravens versus the 49ers battle it out at Squaw’s huge viewing party or kickback and enjoy watching the game and participate in football squares along with food and drink specials at Alpine Meadows’ Last Chair Bar. The Rhalves’ Banzai Tour makes its second stop at Alpine Meadows and The North Face Masters of Snowboarding will hold the qualifier event at Alpine Meadows followed by the championship event at Squaw Valley. FEBRUARY EVENTS AT SQUAW VALLEY:

February 3: The Biggest Big Game Viewing at Squaw Valley
Squaw is hosting the biggest bash in the Sierra for the Big Game on Sunday. Watch the Ravens vs. the 49ers game on a huge, 16-foot by 21-foot, 49-panel jumbo screen at KT Base Bar. Festivities are planned throughout the day including giveaways and promotions before, during and after the game. This event will be a major fundraiser for the High Fives Foundation.

February 7: Alpenglow Winter Film Series at Squaw Valley
Hear from locals and athletes as share stories of their incredible adventures in the mountains. Many of these shows are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and hear from these incredible athletes. February 7 features Roger Strong an Arc’teryx/Black Diamond athlete. Doors open at 7 p.m. at the Squaw Valley Conference Center; showings are free.

February 9: Mardi Squaw
This February, Mardi Squaw is coming to Squaw Valley with the world-famous Silent Disco and San Francisco favorites Planet Booty and DJ J. Boogie. Join th eparty for a night to remember in Bar One in Squaw's Olympic House. Doors open at 8 p.m., and party goes until 2 a.m. Tickets available at MardiSquaw.Heckler.com. February 9: Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle at Squaw Valley
Returning for its fourth year, The Helly Hansen Big Mountain Battle features teams of two taking on big mountains across North America. Ski Patrol has designed and pre-run each course to set the time to beat as teams battle it out on Squaw’s infamous steeps, chutes and cliffs.

February 10: Chinese New Year Celebration at Squaw Valley
The Chinese New Year at Squaw Valley will celebrate the traditional Chinese Holiday with a Lion dance starting at 2 p.m. Also known as “Spring Festival,” this is the year of the snake and we are making it all happen right here at Squaw Valley.

February 12: Fat Tuesday Mardi Crawl at Squaw Valley

February 14: Valentine’s Day Celebration at Squaw Valley
Love is in the air at Squaw Valley this Valentine's Day. Grab your sweetheart or meet a new beau throughout the loveliest day in February. Take part in one of the many activities hosted by Squaw Valley. Meet singles on KT, find the hidden heart bag all around the mountain, and decorate cookies.

February 13 -17: The North Face Masters of Snowboarding at Squaw Valley
The best big mountain snowboarders will descend on Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, February 14-17 to see if they can beat the rest. Qualifiers at Alpine Meadows on Thursday, Semi-Finals and Finals at Squaw Valley on Saturday and Sunday.

February 15-23: Kid-O-Rama
Squaw Valley comes alive this February with a week-long kids’ extravaganza. Big trucks, street parties, balloon animals, skating parties and kids’ concerts are just a few of the festivities for kids and families taking place during Squaw Valley’s Kid-O-Rama. From activities sure to entertain Squaw Valley’s littlest visitors to teen fun, Kid-O-Rama offers non-stop fun for kids of all ages.

February 23: 9th Annual Squaw Valley Prom
Back for its ninth year, the Squaw Valley Prom is hosted by the High Fives Foundation with all ticket proceeds benefitting their amazing non-profit organization. This year’s theme will be Spring Break ’99.

February 23: Guided Moonlight Snowshoe Tours at Squaw Valley
Come out and explore Squaw Valley during the spectacular winter full moon. Join our experienced guides as you snowshoe to spectacular moonlit views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountain peaks. Fun for all ages, cost includes snowshoe rentals (you must supply your own poles if needed). Dress appropriately and wear proper boots. February 3: The Big Game Party at Alpine Meadows’ Last Chair Bar
Skiing and football, is there a better way to spend Super Bowl Sunday? Alpine’s Big Game party is complete with food and drink specials and football squares. Buy a drink, get a square (maximum two squares per person) and cheer on your team. Prizes will be given at the end of each quarter. Enjoy food specials including $5 nachos, $5 wings and $3 Coors Light draft beer, $5 whiskey gingers, $3 Red Zone shots, 1 – 7 p.m. at the Last Chair Bar.

February 9-10: Rahlves’ Banzai Tour at Alpine Meadows
Rahlves’ Banzai Tour is back, showcasing racing in its purest form of four at a time going head-to-head over natural terrain in ski and boarder-cross style action. Open entry for competitors ages 18 and up. Venture to Alpine to view this thrilling race taking place on The Face of Wolverine Bowl, offering one of the best spectator venues in the region. High Fives Foundation will host a Saturday (Feb. 9) après ski party from 3-6 p.m. at the Last Chair Bar. In addition to Sierra Nevada and drink specials and a live raffle, Daron Rahlves and Bank of the West will award $200 to the fastest qualifier of the day.

February 11- 12, WWSRA Demo Event at Alpine Meadows
Western Winter Sports Representatives is a non-profit association that sponsors trade events in the winter, active lifestyles and outdoor industries. The WWSRA Demo event, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., is for industry shop employees only (not the general public). Shop employees have the opportunity to demo next season’s gear.

February 13 – 14: The North Face Masters of Snowboarding qualifying event at Alpine Meadows
The world’s best big mountain snowboarders descend on Alpine Meadows for the qualifying event at Alpine Meadows followed by the championship event at Squaw Valley, Feb. 14-17, to see if they have what it takes to be number one.

February 16: Ice Bar Party, 12 – 3 p.m., at Alpine Meadows
Recognized as one of Tahoe’s most unique spots to gather with friends and catch a few rays of the Sierra’s famous winter sunshine, the Ice Bar is a party every day during the ski season. Skiers and riders who migrate to the Ice Bar (located at the base of the Sherwood Chair) can kick back in a lounge chair with a cold beverage and barbecued bratwurst, try their luck with the hula-hoop contest, or dance to some great DJ beats.

February 17: Après Ski Music by the Honeydrops at Alpine Meadows
Kickback after at day on the slopes and groove to the sounds of The California Honeydrops, 2 -5 p.m. at Alpine’s Sun Deck or Alpine Bar (weather dependent).

Finish your day off right with free live après ski music in The Village with performances from the following. Music will be centrally located in The Village Events Plaza from 3-5 p.m.:

Dawn Patrol at Squaw Valley every Saturday and Sunday
Enjoy a unique early morning mountain experience with exclusive access to untouched corduroy or fresh powder depending on the weather. Dawn Patrollers arrive before the general public and take the Tram to High Camp before anyone else. Dawn Patrol meets at the Tram Building at 7:30 a.m. to take the 7:40 a.m. Tram. $29 for adults, $19 youth and $12 for kids 12 and under.

Sunday Mountaintop Service at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows
Give thanks and praise in the great outdoors every Sunday, led by Tahoe Resort Ministries. Services at Squaw Valley are held every Sunday at Squaw at 2 p.m. at the top of Big Blue Express. For those not skiing or riding, a Tram ticket is required. Services at Alpine Meadows are at the top of Roundhouse Chair every Sunday at 2 p.m. A day lift ticket or season pass is required. All are welcome.

Yoga SquawD
Breathe and stretch while you are away from home in the mountains. The Yoga SquawD will be offering complimentary yoga classes in the Mountain Stream Conference Room with special guest appearances from well known yoga instructors. Forget your mat? Mat will be available for use. The yoga schedule is as follows:

• February 16, 4 p.m.
• March 16, 4 p.m.
• April 20, 4 p.m.

Free Avalanche Workshop at Squaw Valley
Ever wonder what causes an avalanche, or things to look for in snow conditions? If so, Squaw Valley Ski Patrol offers a free avalanche awareness and companion rescue workshop, twice a month to anyone who is interested in either polishing up their skills, or learning for the first time.

Dates are as follows:
• February 1, 5:30 p.m.
• February 15, 5:30 p.m.
