Red Bull Schlittentag Sledding Competition Returns To Alpine Meadows

The Red Bull Schlittentag turns a simple day of sledding into a creative masterpiece for the daring

[Tahoe City, Calif.] April 5, 2012 - The Red Bull Schlittentag returns to Alpine Meadows this Saturday (April 7) at 1:03 p.m. “Schlittentag” is the German word for “sledding day,” but for this particular event it really translates to “daredeveils willing to propel themselves down a snow-covered hill and over a jump on a sled they built themselves.” Three-person teams compete by creating the wildest, fastest, most creative homemade sleds. While one person pilots the vessel, the other two teammates give it a human-powered push to launch it to victory.

Competitors battle it out for the highest combined score, judged on speed and creativity, in order to be crowned the Schlittentag Grand Champions winning a trip to the Red Bull Flugtag (including transportation to and from the event, lodging, tickets and VIP viewing). Three tickets to the Red Bull US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca (July) goes to the team that takes second. The team that places third wins the team’s combined weight in Red Bull. There is a $75 “liquid healing” gift card for “Best Crash.” An award will also go to “Best Supporting Cast” for the team with the best/most fans as voted by the judges. All prizes are subject to change.

Registration starts at 10 a.m. and is free (with a lift ticket or season pass). The event starts at 1:03 p.m. Award Ceremony and after party, featuring DJ David Aaron, will begin at 3:30 p.m. on the sun deck.
